    The solution is quite plainly to use IRIX then. Hey! This is UNIX! I know this!

    1/2 AA 3.6volt (less than) $1 buck ea. - /w catch.

    Just fwiw - that SOIC-8 isn't a small 555. Don't try and use it as a 555. It's a driver IC for the LED, most likely. Similar circuitry exists in all my multimode high power LEDs. ... Besides, for simply flashing an LED, you don't need a 555. One cap and a transistor is pretty much all you...

    OS 9.2.2 Update?

    Y'know, Trash old boy, if you moved to Sydney, you could both meet up with LCGuy and myself, and give Cory a heart attack :D You'd also have even better download speeds from australian ftp mirrors ;)

    too much for one weekend!

    I don't suppose any of those spare logic boards is a 6500/300 or 6500/275? If so, I might need to ask if you'd be interested in throwing it towards someone who has plans for awesome hax... >_>

    17" PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz for $25, And A Question

    Congratulations, you just missed the entire point of having a 68k Mac Liberation Army. 68k Macs? I don't think you can get more obsolete. Yet, time and again, our users prove that they have at least some use, whether in furtherance of nostalgia (Dark Castle!), in a productive capacity (MacWrite...

    Free 68k (dis)assembler for Mac?

    TACK (The Amsterdam Compiler Kit) has an assembler for 68000, 68020, and 68040 - I see no reason why it couldn't be repurposed.

    Skunkworks PS-2 <-> ADB Project

    If it's already been done, why are we still sitting around measuring our ... *ahem* hard drive sustained transfer speeds? >_>

    PowerBook 550c sale on OZ ebay

    You'd probably be able to emulate the black clutch covers by using retr0brite on the 5x0 clutch covers (to strip the plastic down just a tiny bit) and then dyeing black. >_>

    Skunkworks PS-2 <-> ADB Project

    That's actually be relatively simpler - all you need is something to decode USB HID (very very very very very standard) and turn it into ADB (which this project will make more feasible, hopefully.) It is, however, way outside the scope of this. :)

    Analog Board Molded Minbox Capacitors... EXPLODEY!

    IIRC you should be able to replace them with ceramic caps rated for the same capacitance and voltage.

    800K drive mechanism connecting to IIgs

    gobabushka: That narrows my search considerably. If I can find a dead or mechanically icky 800K external, should be good to go, should also be a lot cheaper than a known working one. :)

    800K drive mechanism connecting to IIgs

    Sure. How much do they cost, and is that cost <= the amount of funds I have available? I was hoping to get away with doing this on the cheap. ;)

    800K drive mechanism connecting to IIgs

    OK - this is going to sound entirely absurd. But. I need a 3.5" drive for my IIgs. I have an SE with two 3.5" 800k mechanisms. I read on an eBay listing that some external 1.44MB SuperDrive would work with an Apple FDHD Controller Card, but if plugged into the IIgs would just present as an...

    Skunkworks PS-2 <-> ADB Project

    As per OtherThread... Has anyone looked at the Keyboard Babel project for ADB -> PS/2 conversion to implement in a microcontroller of some description? They've done a great job documenting the low-level protocols for various means of turning button-mashing into characters. Dealing with the...

    KeyStone AT<->ADB Keyboard & Serial Mouse Converter . . .

    Not to nitpick, but a competent mod would also probably create a usable link, such as Skunkworks PS/2 <-> ADB Project }:) It's not incompetence, don't worry - as long as you can keep the peace you're doing your job as a moderator correctly. Between you and me, I derp pretty hard with...

    KeyStone AT<->ADB Keyboard & Serial Mouse Converter . . .

    God I hope you're right that your flash doesn't let UV pass. The very nature of a photoflash is a high-intensity broad-spectrum emission of visible and invisible light - flash tubes themselves have a coating on them which severely reduces the amount of UV light allowed to pass through. At any...

    coolest A/UX-related development

    Wouldn't it at this point be the better solution to simply have a modern linux or unix or BSD, sit a MacOS clone WM on top of X (mwm used to be a thing, but i don't expect it'll compile on anything approaching modern - that needs work, as would gtk and qt engines for sys7/Platinum window...

    LaTeX editor on classic MacOS

    I'm biased here, but - GNU Emacs had an OS 9 port for some time. The auctex and tex modes should work perfectly well in it, given that LaTeX has been around for quite some time - you should be able to find usable versions. Otherwise, I recall a specific Mac TeX distribution, I think called...
