It still might be a D mask. The code is on the chip under the heatsink.
At any rate, the E masks will generally run fine at 40 if you’ve got the chunky heatsink on.
The 25 rated D masks can get quite hot and may crash, even if they boot.
Corrosion can cause metal expansion and the solder mask flakes off. It'll also cause broken traces, but generally not shorted traces.
Based on the image, measuring between 1, 2, and 4 should all show continuity at 0 Ohms. Between 2 and 3 should show resistance matching the resistor's rating...
It seems my Quadra 700 is missing it's 4-pin cable for HD power.
Does anyone know the pinout? From a picture online I think it's (numbered from bottom left viewed from the cable end):
1 - 12v
2 - Ground
3 - Ground
4 - 5v
Which helpfully mirrors the pinout of the other end. Can anyone confirm...
I've got to be the master of monologues on this forum...anyway, ran a benchmark today and it might be the slightest bit faster. This machine only has Speedometer right now but maybe I'll get around to Norton at some point. "This Machine" is the 3.0 driver.
Rest of the scores below this were...
There's also kits to replace standard modem guts with the same (no endorsement here and I haven't tried this one, but it's a clean example): https://www.tindie.com/products/retromodem/wifi-retromodem-for-hayes-smartmodem/
I think both those types of products do what you're suggesting. They...
I forgot to mention, the Universal version claims to support:
Total Systems Mercury
Total Systems Gemini 020\030
Total Systems Gemini
Total Systems Gemini Classic
Total Systems Ultra
Total Systems Integra
Total Systems Mercury Classic
Extreme Systems
Microspeed
Mobius 030
Mobius Classic 030...
I tried this out on my SE with a 40MHz Gemini Ultra today, using System 7.1.1.
Seems to work fine at a basic level, and the installer does all the setup including removal of older versions, which is nice. Better than the manual setup for 3.0.
Nothing obviously works better, though, which makes...
Does the ROM code have a built in wait loop for ROM access? The Quadras do to try to time ROM access to the respective bus speed. It's one of the things you can overclock with a custom ROM by removing wait states.
7.5 definitely patches a significant amount of the ROM code for older devices, so...
Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I assume you referenced Technote 15?
Both the Rockets and the 8-24 GC can master, if you need reference examples. Based on the locked transfer count they can also do bursts of 2 and 16, respectively. I think the GC only bursts to speak to other cards (to...
From a technical standpoint, is this putting the IDE controller directly on PDS/NuBus together with a ROM driver? Or is the card doing more work to translate between a proprietary driver command set and ATA PIO?
At this rate, next time you start a new thread you'll be putting ISA cards in your...
You can verify without a known-good copy as the DeclROM appears to cover the entire ROM image:
I recalculated the checksum with bbraun's declrom tools: http://www.synack.net/~bbraun/declrom.html.
I get the same sum that's in the ROM header: 7611A938. Thus it is not damaged.
I've obtained copies of 1.1b and 2.0.3. Probably interesting just from a historical perspective. These came off a 2.0.3 disk but it had clearly been modified, so unsure if these are complete. 1.1b comes with a tool to patch AppleTalk, but I'm missing installation instructions. 2.0.3 had a...
700 will do much better with a clock doubler in the socket. Keeps it stock too...ish! Sadly they're unobtainium and Bolle only made one lot of clones. We can only be so greedy 😛 .
It's large yeah, but mine gets burning hot to the touch. I had some airflow problems and ran into similar symptoms...it only worked when it was cool. That said, that's with the FC rated at 66MHz.
But the cache chips isn't a bad theory so I'm interested to see if that turns out...maybe my...
