I’ve seen reference to a 3.1 ROM revision, but this is the first time I’ve actually seen one. Sadly the price isn’t right especially when I don’t need another one…https://ebay.us/m/Amaljv
Wonder what‘s different.
I believe they work with pure 060 setups, no host CPU needed.
Ignoring the FPU, which shouldn't be needed for boot, the instructions requiring the emulation package really aren't bad:
The unimplemented integer instructions are:
DIVU.L <ea>,Dr:Dq 64/32 ⇒ 32r,32q
DIVS.L <ea>,Dr:Dq 64/32 ⇒...
I'm no expert at either, but if I remember correctly, the Amiga 060 support packages are loaded as libraries, thus already at a moderately late stage in ROM initialization. Obviously that's dependent on the actual instructions used by ROM before RAM is setup, and it's possible Macs get...
Thanks for the suggestions! It needs a recap anyway so I think I'll give that a go first and see where that leaves me. Overall the CRT seems intact (if a bit tired) despite the slightly jostled geometry magnets. The linearity problem specifically is suggested by the Scrolls as a bad resistor, so...
Yeah, I was hoping maybe it would blit the graphics commands directly from the Rocket to the card with RocketShare running, but it doesn't seem like that's the case either. Still the same slow Radius Virtual Graphics, at least for me.
My SE/30 has developed a dim region on the screen which doesn't match any of the Dead Mac Scrolls diagnostics. I'm getting some occasional flickering, so I definitely think the analog board is due for a recap, but this behavior is curious.
Essentially, about 25% of the left side of the screen...
I've got Sound Manager 3.0 with RocketShare on both OS and it seems to work fine. I've been repeatedly confused by that claim, in fact sound seems to work better, so I'm wondering if it got "fixed" somewhere along the way.
As for video cards, I've been scratching my head on that one. RadiusWare...
Not sure why I never thought to check the wayback...here's the 1996 accelerator price list:
At the end there: GemStart Universal v 7.1 68030 Accelerator Driver [N] • $35.00 • new • SOFTW-90346
So I assume they commissioned an update from the original author to sell...
Hand-in-hand with this, there's late versions of the GemStart accelerator driver here which claims to support most accelerators including the NewLife: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/gemstart-drivers-various-versions.44624/post-555321
Neat! 1,000 feet really isn't bad. Beats thinnet and 10Base-T, so it's not too shabby really, if your primary need is long runs (connecting campus buildings and such). Seems pretty niche, but it definitely would have found it's uses in large deployments.
Never understood why I needed to be able...
Yeah, though they are easier to source and easier to work with, the more modern chips are still out of production in many cases. I've had good luck with used parts from China, though.
You could also consider OTP parts, which are just EPROMs without the window. Those tend to have a lot more...
Oops. I posted a guide on replacing these and I didn't realize it needed to be Vcc, specifically...I need to correct that. If anyone notices any other errors here I'd appreciate it so this can be a better reference now that EPROMs are getting harder to source: https://eharmon.net/retro/eproms/...
I had the same problem for awhile. Sadly I can't remember exactly how I fixed it but it involved discarding the guest disk a few times and disabling some extensions on the host. I think it's some extension conflict with the AppleTalk magic the Rocket does to bridge disks.
For some reason it never occurred to me a pico PSU can avoid the power supply connector compatibility issues between boards and cases. Obvious in hindsight, and handy!
Oooh very nice! My friend has a non-turbo slab I've been wanting to fix up for them...
The multiplexor detail is pretty interesting, I wonder how unique that was in 040 designs overall.
