I also have a re-capped LCII, SCSI2SD inside and BlueSCSI plugged into the back. It would act up, I had to flip the power on and off and wait for it to even chime. I replaced the internal battery, and it hasn't given me trouble since. I didn't think the LCII had this kind of battery issue, but...
Any 603-G3 machines I have run 8.6, anything G4 runs 9.2.2. I completely agree, 9.1 on my 225Mhz 603ev runs pretty bad, even with the 400MHz G3 accelerator it does not run quite right. 9.0 crashed a lot and I gave up on it pretty quickly. 8.6 can do anything I need it to do, I may need to...
Extremely interested in where this goes. Other FPS game son Mac that run better would be Duke Nukem 3D and Marathon. Granted, with Duke Nukem 3D, by "run better" I mean "Runs great for what it's doing, which is more than Doom". I know Marathon isn't as complex as Doom, but the midway point...
Follow-up necro-post. I did the thing, and it works. I didn't do a CPU socket or anything fancy. There was a plastic spacer under the CPU to keep it away from the logic board, I removed that in favor of some layers of kapton tape, which allowed the CPU to sit lower on the boar,d allowing a...
I've tried a lot of the MacOS versions, but I skipped a lot of them, after some testing.
68030 16/33Mhz: 7.5. 8.1 was possible with my 68LC40 accelerator, but it ran miserably on 10MB of RAM.
68040 33Mhz: 7.5, 8.1 was notably slower.
603ev 180/225Mhz: dual boot 7.6 and 8.6. 9.1 ran slower, DooM...
Something similar, aftermarket GPU coolers are absolutely a thing. The Radeon X1900 G5 edition has an aftermarket GPU, which strangely looks like it should not be as good, yet is. The density of the copper fins actually restricts air flow, and the single PCIe bay size makes it an absolute heat...
Is this possible? If the bus is 16Mhz, would there be an issue with a 33Mhz processor on a 16Mhz bus? I haven't done the proc swap yet, but swapping the crystal sounds very interesting. I wonder how hard I could push this.
A simple question, but I can't find any information, so maybe no one has tried. If I were to replace a 68LC40 on a Sonnet Presto 040 card with a full 68040 (With FPU), would the card accept the processor, and would the system (An LCII) be able to see/use the FPU? Or are there additional...
A curious problem. The cards in question are a Radeon 7000, a Sonnet combo USB/Firewire card and an OrangePC 660.
the OrangePC card has a K6-2 in it, so it has a much larger heatsink than the stock one, which is quite small. The card best fits in the top-most slot of a G3 tower, it can fit in...
I did this myself, it runs super cool with that fan in there! Even if the PCI card is above it kinda muffling the fan, it still cools the CPU well enough.
I've done a lot of tests on my own machines. 030 and 040 machines use 7.5, 603 machines use 8.6.
I forget what my G3 uses, but G4 is dual boot 9.2 and 10.4/10.5
I've never gotten an ATI card of any kind to work with a 6500 board. I've tried to play with system extensions to see if I could trick it into working, buy it never did. I settled with a Voodoo2, and use the 2D accelleration of the on-board RageII with the 3D of the voodoo. I do use a G3...
