IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Had a chance to look at this further. Agreed that this section of the circuit involves audio. I see a lot of 12V and -12V rail triangles in the schematic at that point. I'm still at a loss here. The "45" transistor is only involved with turning the power supply on or off. When it's on, the power...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Oh no! Sorry to hear that! I'm on a lunch break so I can't look in detail until later tonight, but I can't imagine that resistor would cause this problem. All that pulldown should do is tweak the value of the existing pulldown resistor built into the 45 transistor, effectively requiring /PFW to...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Haha, not a solder blob! :D Yeah, it's a little variable resistor or pot or something like that. If I'm reading my notes correctly, mine measured as about 2.106 kohms out of circuit, but I'd need to double check that before saying it confidently. Bomarc's schematic says 2K which makes me wonder...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Nice! Good point -- seems like those would have lower ESR than the originals, so that kind of blows my theory in the water. I do wonder what would happen if I put slightly lower uF capacitors on my 5V rail for fun. Or, I wonder if I have a leaky component that's feeding a little bit into the...

Troubleshooting a IIsi Sony APS-06 Power supply - blown capacitor caused by bad diodes in series with C105

It's very subtle and I probably should have marked it better in the pictures. If you look at the voltage rail connected to C103 and R103, it's different before and after. On Bomarc's schematic, it goes to the triangle with just a single horizontal line which is labeled as "primary circuit...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Thanks for the data points! How are you able to measure that high of capacitance? Do you have a specialized meter? I've noticed my multimeter can't measure larger capacitors too. My multimeter just says OL, and my cheap DSO-TC3 component tester just hangs up forever if I try to measure the...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

I believe when /PFW goes all the way up to 5V, it means Egret is driving it high in an attempt to turn the power supply on. When it goes to that 4V-ish level, it means the power supply is on but Egret has it set as a Hi-Z input and is not driving it at all. So it just gets pulled up to 5V minus...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Wow, you went above and beyond! Thank you so much! (Nice choice of scope, too. ;)) My tests are with an actual hard drive, no PRAM battery. Extra data point: I just realized that if I don't have a hard drive plugged in, my IIsi logic board is also not capable of turning off my IIci's power...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

Thanks, David! Unfortunately, I don't have another IIsi. I do have a IIci, so I've done some swapping back and forth with those power supplies, and that's where it's really a mystery: The IIci power supply works fine with the IIsi motherboard. The IIsi power supply works fine with the IIci...

IIsi power supply won't turn off, I'm deep in schematic land

I recently got around to trying to fix the power supply from a IIsi I got a while back. I recapped and cleaned everything, of course. I already mentioned in another thread here that I found a shorted diode marked "22UA" that was preventing the power supply from turning on. After replacing it...

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Did you try it with the Spanish 1.1 enabler from the July 95 Dev CD? (E-009-2332-A(DT).image). They removed the egg from the 1.1.1 enabler. And they accidentally left the old 1.1 version on this particular disk.

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Nice write-up and video, Pierre! I just confirmed it also works on my 6100/60 after the newer ROM (part number 341-0757) arrived. 341-0741 is the original ROM (9FEB69B3) 341-0757 is the new ROM (9B7A3AAD) PowerPC Enabler 1.1 only loads if you have the newer ROM installed. I can tell because...

Troubleshooting a IIsi Sony APS-06 Power supply - blown capacitor caused by bad diodes in series with C105

I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote this, but I was trying to say the 2SK1402A is rated for a maximum of 650V so that's the spec I was shooting for on the diode. My bad on the wording there.

Troubleshooting a IIsi Sony APS-06 Power supply - blown capacitor caused by bad diodes in series with C105

Adding more info to this thread about the IIsi power supply and the unidentified 22UA diode: My IIsi power supply was dead. Of course I recapped and heavily cleaned it before even trying to use it, but that didn't fix it. The symptom was the 5V standby rail was fine, but as soon as I pressed...

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Yep, you'll see that text is also in my DingusPPC screenshot. It seems to be drawn by code in 'timd' resource ID 13. 'STR#' ID -16651 contains the text, and the code shown below loads it. Looks like it also titles the window "Paula's Favorite" but you can't see it. I think the Paula's Desk...

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Oh that's interesting! So did your 6100/66 have the older 9FEB69B3 ROM originally? I wonder if the 6100/66 didn't need the newer ROM or something. Today I ordered a newer ROM to put in my 6100/60 for fun.

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Nice, that's way more complicated than I expected! And I guess the 7100 just always responds with a good ID. I finally ended up reproducing the Paula Abdul easter egg using @joevt 's DingusPPC fork. The magic incantation ends up being to use the newer 9B7A3AAD ROM. With the newer ROM, the 1.1...

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

I put my 6100 away for the night, so I can't quite remember what it was displaying with that command. It was crashing after displaying the first 4 bytes (no way to limit the DM command to 4 bytes). That's why I was trying a register read/dump with D0 instead. But yeah, sounds like hardware...

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Thanks. I was being lazy and hoping I could do it without installing MacsBug (the example commands you provided don't work in MicroBug as far as I know) but I just bit the bullet and installed MacsBug. DL 5FFFFFFC in MacsBug on my 6100/60 returns the same thing I was seeing with my example...

Paula Abdul and the Power Mac 8100/110

Do you have a fancy way to do this easily? When I do this in MicroBug on my 6100/60: D0 @$5FFFFFFC And then print out D0: D0 I get: A500A500 which doesn't seem right.
