Thanks. The mechanism all looks to work fine. There's no belts. I've cleaned the lens with IPA, but cannot find a pot to adjust it. I've come across two more posts (one here and the other linked to from that post) that says it's very likely to be the caps. I think my soldering skills need some...
I think I'll check that I've done all the caps properly. I'm not that good at soldering and when I recapped my Quadra I had to redo quite a few of the caps as I'd not done a good job first time!
It's a Sony CDU561-25. I've tried with many different discs. Audio, boughts CDs and burnt ones. All show the exact same symptoms. It hesitates for about a minute then spits the caddy back out.
I've just found this post on here about the same drive getting recapped.
The CDROM drive on my Quadra 610 takes the CD in, "thinks" then spits it back out again! From reading about this issue it's either the laser that's faulty or the caps. I cleaned the lens with a cotton bud and some isopropanol without any improvement. Then I recapped the board. But there's no...
An update on my issue: I decided the more pragmatic (and sensible!) way forward was to use the Image (GlobalTalkHD.img) that people have so kindly prepared, rather than troubleshoot my own messy setup! So I did so. I've just opened the port on my router and got the immediate thrill of seeing...
I'm a bit late to the game (but I'm aiming for #marchintosh2025!). I've got this error too. Except I've not knowingly installed the Bluescsi DaynaPort drivers.
This image was initially created and installed for minivMac. Once installed, and with Tashrouter running on a RPi I can see local zones...
Now that's I've recapped and got working (Myst on 7.1!) my Quadra 610 I need to think about the PSU and perhaps fix the cdrom. I've seen no sign that the PSU is failing, but are these prone to cap leakage too? I've searched and searched and not come up with an answer? Even better has anybody...
It is! Working for a small company means you wear many hats!
Great! Although I've only got it working on Mac OS9. It's not working on the Quadra using either 7.1, 7.5.3, 7.6 and 8.1. I've not yet looked into why. Timelord is running on two Linux boxes with Netatalk v2. One via Docker and the...
Thanks! I was fairly close to giving up! I was quite happy when I found the break on that leg. Even happier when I booted it up after putting that blob of solder on it and I did not hear the Chimes of Death! At that point I only had the PSU and the speaker attached. I could scarely run fast...
Molecular Biology (DNA, genes etc.) at Huddersfield, then Biochemistry at Leeds. Now I work for a very small company producing Mac software for molecular biologists.
Way before I went into science I did a "printing" course (family business) and I did my dissertation on an Amstrad CPC464. That...
Thanks! I've just got the RAM upgrade this morning so let's see if 8.1 is acceptable in speed. Weirdly I'd ordered 2 x 32mb EDO SIMMS. But they are labelled 64MB each! But when inserted into the Quadra it's only recognising 64MB in total (plus the 4MB on the board). Like it's only taking 32MB...
Yeah it was a bit poor. But to be fair I was in Life Sciences not computing. SO they may have a more eclectic set of operating systems! These were the public labs in the main building and also the biology school computer labs. I did have terminal access to some sort of UNIX, but I do not really...
