    JoeCard Manual & Software?

Indeed, the XLR8 and other Software work well with almost every aftermarket G3/G4 upgrade. Regarding the IP infringement - that was much disputed as there are not so many ways how to enable the cache. No matter what, that was not the reason why Met@box exited the market. Short story: I´ve...

    iMac G3 not starting

Thanks for the tip @Daniël the iMac indeed booted this time after being plugged-in for 6 days. I will investigate whether it fully works the other day.

    iMac G3 not starting

Got an Indigo iMac G3 - 350 from a garage sale for free. The unit looks visually ok but it does not start up or even make a startup chime. If i press the power button, all i can hear is a click from the speakers and that‘s it. I followed the standard procedure and opened the unit up, removed the...

Do any G4 ZIF upgrades run @ 100Mhz bus?

it´s no wonder that the Radeon 7000 PCI doesn´t feel much snappier than the Rage 128. AFAIK, the Radeon 7000 was the lowest end of the Radeons - a 64bit interfaced card versus the 128bit of the Rage 128/Rage128 pro. It clocked higher and had DDR instead of SDR VRam to overcome the limited Chip...

Sonnet Crescendo L2 G3 upgrade model compatibility

Even if we could have made the "T" model running reliably on Alchemy/Gazelle (we already had the 40Mhz/50Mhz bus frequency switch enabled for Tanzania I and II), we had to completely redesign the card as it´s way to tall to fit into a 5400/5500/6400/6500 Housing. On the PM4400 and the Motorola...

I think you got the dimension quite well. 👍 Indeed, that‘s the “T“ card

Sonnet Crescendo L2 G3 upgrade model compatibility

JoeCard was always the version with 1mb Cache, LittleJoe the one with 512kb. There has been a JoeCard T and a LittleJoe T - both having the same form factor. Let me see if i can find the actual card‘s dimension as the cover shot on the box does make them all ( T, Ziff and regular Processor card)...

    The clones that weren't

Right you are. It is not clear from the doc whether it is meant for a combo CPU or PowerPC. As the docs talk about Cyrix and the way the cache slot will be addressed differently then, I guess it is really meant for two different CPUs.

    The clones that weren't

Interesting side note: the IBM Long Trail documentation at one point mentions the compatibility to both, PPC and Cyrix. Would have been cool to have a mainboard that could do x86 and PowerPC just by switching the CPU - of course this another alternative reality. With Apple’s x86 shift in 2005...

Sonnet Crescendo L2 G3 upgrade model compatibility

Regarding the L2 cache slot CPU upgrades, I came across one of my postings in 1999 on the 6400 Zone page. The g3 card for tanzania is trivia, you only have to route the ppc750 pinout to the cach dimm slot and do a little fine tuning. Tanzania uses a lot of the the alchemy design, but has some...

    The clones that weren't

The Pios Maxxtrem was based on the Pios One board, completely unrelated to other CHRP/PREP designs. IBM and Motorola both offered their CHRP reference designs like Yellowknife (Motorola) or Long Trail (IBM). info on IBMˋs approach can be found here...

    The clones that weren't

Hey, Magna was simply a S900 Tsunami/Storm Surge Mainboard in a special housing. Only the pios one was a CHRP compliant development.

Sonnet Crescendo L2 G3 upgrade model compatibility

Met@box (originally Pios) started primarily as computer developer. They had a clone sublicense from Motorola and developed a CHRP Mac Clone (Maxxtrem) that was also planned (sans the Mac Chipset) as a new Amiga (many of the guys behind pios were ex Amiga/Commodore guys from germany and the US)...

Sonnet Crescendo L2 G3 upgrade model compatibility

JoeCard? I can offer some info on that. I was one of the developers behind all the JoeCard products for the different CPU slots. I have to check my notes from the late 90s but I clearly remember that - although the L2 slot looks the same - the behaviour of LPX ( Tanzania) and...
