    Sad/Death Chime on IIci

A full wash cycle in my dishwasher, followed by light muriatic acid/toothbrush scrub, and hair dryer blow. I must say that the sound was unstable (kept coming off/on when poking around that area) after dishwasher wash, but the issue stopped after the toothbrush scrub. The trace that goes under...

    Sad/Death Chime on IIci

I have a Mac IIci which I recently bought off CL in San Jose. At first, it only powered up if I kept on pushing the power button, and even with that it only showed the power on green light, with no other sign of life. I recapped all electrolytic SMD capacitors on the LB, and I now have good...

Sorry Greniu for the (very) late reply. Please follow the procedure below from the lisafaq website Parity Error 71 You may have noticed something missing... there are 18 columns of chips, not 16. The extra 2 are for parity bits, one for each byte. If there was a parity error, then all the...

De-serialize Lisa System and Lisa Office Diskettes

Thanks @sunder ! Great info. And yes, I had noticed that some tools were not serialized, but did not record which ones. I need to research this quite a bit more. I was pretty sure I couldn't load LOS when I first tried, and that's when I learned about this serializing thing. I remember going...

    Retrobrite indoors?

Earlier, I had bought some expensive UV-C LEDs and rigged up a similar cooler, with 6 LED's at the top. Tried overnight, with absolutely zero effect. So I'm 90% sure that UV has nothing to do with it. It's all heat and H2O2. I also never found that oxi-clean did anything either.

    Retrobrite indoors?

I once saw a youtube video showing that heat is actually more efficient that UV in retr0briting. So my rig is just a large cooler with a 75W incandescent light bulb placed inside. This tends to keep the temperature in a 50-60C range. I use hydrogen peroxide (12%) with wallpaper glue as a...

De-serialize Lisa System and Lisa Office Diskettes

Actually the procedure to deserialize the OS was pretty well described. See here for instance. It was the Apps for which I couldn't find anything too clear..

De-serialize Lisa System and Lisa Office Diskettes

Since I spent so much time figuring out how to de-serialize Lisa diskettes, I figured I'd post the "how to" in order to perhaps help the community. There are a lot of bits and pieces on-line, but nothing really comprehensive. So here we go Of course, an easy way to go is to download the...

    Walkmac

I was a bit concerned to keep the plasma screens operating for two 8h days, but they miraculously held. And yeah, I discovered after the show that the floppy cable was loose, and that explained some of the glitches we had. No @mazin07 , it was not your fault :)

Mac XL downgrade back to 2/10

So I received the Hitachi HN482764 EPROMs. I tried to burn them with my programmer, but the max voltage it could provide was 18V, and these chips require 21V. The AMD chips could be written at 18V, using several write cycles, but these Hitachi ones would not budge. So I used two small power...

    Walkmac

Our "Colby" booth at the VCF-West event was very well attended. Some of you showed up, and it was fun. See pics from the booth below. The first one shows a MacColby, Walkmac, Walkmac Tempest, Cyclops keyboard, and a Colby printer (rebranded Diconix Kodak). Second one shows a Walkmac SE, and...

Mac XL downgrade back to 2/10

Yes 21V. My programmer only had 18V and it took a bit of trial-and-error to write. But it did eventually burn, and verified OK. But yeah, perhaps the programmer could read OK, but my Lisa ran into some SNR issues. Thanks for the reply

Mac XL downgrade back to 2/10

I'm not having too much luck posting my issue on an old thread in this forum, so I'll start a new one. I'm trying to convert my Mac XL back to a 2/10 model. To start with, I took the CPU board from the XL, swapped the two ROMs and the VSROM chip from my good 2/10, inserted this converted XL CPU...

Need some serious Help with Apple Lisa/Mac XL & H-ROMs

mmm, it looks like I'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to convert my Mac XL back to a 2/10 model. To start with, I took the CPU board from the XL, swapped the two ROM and the VSROM chips from my good 2/10, inserted this converted XL CPU board in my 2/10, and confirmed that it worked OK. So...

Oh, and in case you'll have the same problem that I had when following LisaFAQ instructions, read on. When it says: "To display the 16 words at $186 type: 1186 20<return>" It is actually: type 1 to get into the ROM sub-menu, then type the actual address (186 in this example, or 27C in my...

    Post repair summary

@stepleton : Thanks again. I found the location of the faulty chip using the info stored in memory locations 27C and 27D. This is also described in the LisaFAQ site. I had some spare 64k chips from a similar repair on a Mac 128h, and a soldering job did the trick. I could have saved $125 ...
