    Do I need RF shielding?

FWIW, I don't think Classics/Classic IIs have ever had foil shielding.

    RaSCSI Development Thread

Ha! I wonder as well if I could use a SCSI device to accelerate 3D graphics as well – I'd block transfer vertices and transformations in, rasterize on the RaSCSI, and read a framebuffer out...

talk about stress... not sure what’s next

As someone who struggles with depression and anxiety, I just wanted to reach and say that we're all here for you – you give us and this community so much, I've learned so much from reading your posts. I know we'll see ya at your best some time in the future!

    Clipout for mini-vMac

How do you debug crashes when working at such a low level? I'm thinking of writing my own booter á la the booters that NetBSD has, that adds a shutdown hook that copies the kernel into memory, disables interrupts as late as possible, and JMPs there. However, I'm worried that I won't be able to...

Doom on SoftPC on an SE/30?

Haha, yes to the Doom title screen! I'm sure many other people would enjoy it as well.

Doom on SoftPC on an SE/30?

Not only that, I'm amazed that it can even keep up a smooth audio experience while struggling to render more than 1 FPS... (I stole a little screenshot from that for my avatar, if that's alright @Bolle?)

Doom on SoftPC on an SE/30?

This isn't a recap troubleshooting thread, I know, so I'll make it worth your time. Would someone have the capacity to run Doom on SoftPC on an (extremely tricked out) SE/30? I don't have enough RAM to do so myself, but I do have this morbid curiosity to see how well it would run. I wonder how...

    Memory expansion on Macintosh Classic

Huh, strangely enough I'm having a similar but not identical problem – recapped my Classic's AB (save for the really large power filter caps), have a known good LB. When the memory expansion is inserted, I get a blank screen (as if someone had removed the ROM), and then over time garbage on the...

    PB180 preventative maintenance?

Hey, thanks a dozen for showing a newbie the ropes! Yeah, now wonder if there's enough clearance to put a blob of epoxy near the base of the logic board brass inserts? (Or maybe ABS cement, etc.) Also, tell me more about your hinge repair, do the screws in your lid also lock into the existing...

    Removing CRT Neck Board Glue

Truth be told, I'd be even more careful about pulling perpendicular to the neck board... I've ruined a 9" CRT by accidentally whacking the CRT neck from the bottom, when trying to disconnect a SCSI cable. That ending up shattering the nipple anyway. (Actually, @jessenator sold me a replacement...

    PB180 preventative maintenance?

Hey all – I just scored this very well-preserved PowerBook 180 in working condition, no cosmetic damage, and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm not familiar with 68k PowerBooks, so is there some preventative maintenance I can do right now (i.e. replacing the PRAM, recapping, reinforcing brittle...

Desoldering AB caps with large pads, tips?

I have a Classic AB which, while otherwise fine, suffers from "screen shimmers" every time it reads from the disk. I figured that recapping the AB would fix that, and I've managed to recap everything but the beefiest capacitors – CP1 and CP13, both 220uF/250V capacitors. Unfortunately, it...

    Classic Analog Board low power

Maybe, just maybe, since both the +5V and +12V rails are lower than expected, there might be a voltage pot you can adjust on the AB? I don't know what it is off the top off my head. Strange, but I've also had an uncapped Classic II LB (rev B) that had no sound – don't know what it was, and I...

Apple custom ASIC dissection, imaging and analysis

SWIM, RTC, and SND is a good bet – you get them on many models. What is the VIA chip, by the way? I've had Maxell bombs get them on Classics, but after doing some research I notice that many models have them.

Mac mini G4 OS 9 reports

Stuff that doesn't work – AirPort doesn't work, the sound's stuck on one volume. I've also had issues where I haven't been able to use a mouse plugged into a keyboard hub without installing USB Overdrive. But other than that, yes, it's a pretty goddamn bonkers machine to run OS 9 on!

    Classic II Rev. 2 Schematics

Oh, I stand corrected then, thanks! I'd be very interested in any rev II  schematics anyone would find as well; the Classic II is finicky enough already with all of its custom ICs.

    Classic II Rev. 2 Schematics

I've attached the Bomarc schematics with that PN I'm using... although I remember running across what seemed to be like typos when I was recapping my Classic II, so it may be for a first revision board.

Macintosh SE scanlines on display - another analog board fault!

Another forum member knows the AB's components better than I do, but the scanlines might be fixed by simply adjusting the brightness – I've fixed visible scanlines like these before.
