    Quietest SCSI Hard drive

Yeah that’s the model number, but I think the W is for the 68pin wide model. I’ve looked it up and it does appear to be the same drive…. I have the 50 pin narrow scsi model

    Quietest SCSI Hard drive

The Quantum XP43400 is incredibly quiet, I almost forget it’s on. Expensive though used, dunno why. The second quietest drive I have, and have a few, is the Seagate Medalist SL drive, the ST51080N. both are very reliable in my experience.

that is a very interesting solution, do you have an example and a link to this? Especially in regards to sharing the same gnd reference !

What is the -12V Rail used for?

Great info, there the issue of rail power though, especially in the latest sfx psu, the -12v is ratwd at 0.3w, which is… quite anemic, especially if I have to convert it using a 7905…. could that be an issue? Is there a polarity inverter IC I could use? I have seen buck converters rewired to...

What is the -12V Rail used for?

As in the title, what are -12v and -5v rails in classic 68k macs - and also 601 and 603e PowerPC, used for ? Why is it so important? This would help in rebuilding/replacing the PSU in many vinta machines, especially when using modern ATX/SFX psu.

    MacGUI Downloads gone

Well, the whole point of preserving information is.... to preserve information. I imagine that the database was also built by people like you and me that willfully submitted maybe even a single piece of software that would otherwise be totally lost, so that it was preserved and available to all...

    LC 575 refurb options?

to be more precise, even if the connections from the AB to the LB were compatible (they are not) the 575 bezel has straight sides, while the 580 has curved sides (cylindrical vs spherical crt).

    LC 575 refurb options?

I really do not think so, the 580 uses a shadow grille crt instead of a Trinitron, it’s totally different

Original PowerMac G5 2003 with the new Bluetooth module - is it possible?

I remember that, I used to have a late G5 with that board. I think I did try to pass down the stock airport card from the Mac Pro to it - but I can’t remember if I was successful

    PM 5400 / 5500 Damage? Compatibility?

…they say an image is worth a thou words… any pin that connects to a black wire is GND. The pin that carries 3V in a 6500 harness would be the one where I wrote “3V”. This is a 6200 harness.

    PM 5400 / 5500 Damage? Compatibility?

It’s the third pin from the edge of the board on both sides of the connector , as I pictured on the above image… it’s of a 630 that I tested in a 6500 harness and power supply.

    PM 5400 / 5500 Damage? Compatibility?

No, I just salvaged a coin cell holder from an old PC mainboard and recycled the leads from the old battery - check for green corrosion first. i can post the gerber if you want but it’s really trivial. also I use some adhesive velcro underneath the pcb to use the hookpad on the LB….

    PM 5400 / 5500 Damage? Compatibility?

Here are a couple ideas. The first photo is which pin needs to be isolated (or checked); tape the pin on the other side as well. the second photo is a simple adapter I made (the other board is for a relay, ignore it).

    PM 5400 / 5500 Damage? Compatibility?

Ok, I apologize- it was not clear what were you asking. In reality, using a 630-6300 board in a 5-6400/5-6500 enclosure that also provides a 3.3v rail should not pose a problem as that pin is NC in most logic boards.(there are threads which detail this and how to make sure that indeed the pin is...

    PM 5400 / 5500 Damage? Compatibility?

While these are much less likely to be batt bombed due to the use of alkaline 4.5 batteries, I don’t think you need any 3.3 on the 6300 - it does not jave a PCI slot

    LC 575 refurb options?

The two TDA7052A chips are the audio amplifiers… surely cleaning the contact posts can’t hurt

    LC 575 refurb options?

@Arbee, you don’t happen to have the schematics of the analog board? That’s where the audio amplifiers are located….
