A 575AB mod is doeable, however you still need the flyback from the original CC AB, as it is, it will not work unfortunately. Still , not only the AB is missing but also the video box that connects to the CRT neck. Again, you need the original CC one for it to work with the 575 AB mod
Yes...
That is some weird takky mod, the original owner connected the IR/volume/earphone box without allowing for these control outside access - that is pointless? It looks like a 62/6300 board, and that means the whole harness has been replaced; using a 575 board will not help as it is not compatible...
Hi Macuserman!
i was under the impression that only the B&W G3 needed that, not the beige - in case that’s… ehm the case, where would I find an updated firmware? The Beige G3 has a ROM dimm in it
I took a g4/350 zif from a working Yikes machine (I had it on for a few hours to check - it had to be recycled and the HD destroyed) and i wanted to put it in my Beige G3/300 to upgrade it. I had great care of the CPU. So today I open the machine, remove the original G3 and place the G4. Remove...
Success! Had to use a ch341a programmer for a completely different spi flash - a pmc pm25lv10, found on a flat panel driver board - that I’ve erased and flashed with the 208 fw!
then, smd soldered on the 7000 !
and this is the result…. Wow
Unfortunately, it did not work - again… however it did give me a slightly different message. Trying to flash in a Beige g3/300 that is absolutely stock with512mb ram and os 9.2.2.
it freezes hard at this message.
ruined flash chip maybe? I’m concerned that subjecting the pcb to all these heat...
Hi Dosdude, yes that is how i did it…. I used an 858 and chipquick solder paste I have some reservation on the chip itself as I cannot remember where it came from, most probably ebay since they aren’t in stock at Mouser.
argh I may have changed the reply too soon then if the programmer can be used! Yes I do have access to a PC however it’s too new - no pci slots in it hence why I was looking to flash the cards (there’s a Ati 7000 too) in situ. Do you still have a rom chip?
Ok then, I dont think I can do that as the programmer I have is a ch341a. I think my problem is in sourcing the correct chips since the one I have may be unusable. At this poi t is anyone able to poi t me in a good direction for sourcing a compatible chip or sell me one?
So as the going says “no one woe will befall you as it will always have friends silently following ” I have problems in also flashing a 7000 card I replaced the FW chip - and these I am absolutely sure are sourced thru Mouser.
checked the solder and it looks good even under microscope. Tested...
Ok so I have some problems…. I replaced the chip on the board as per the image. I am using a 8600 that has been upgraded to a G3/450 using a Sonnet cpu, with 9.1 installed. very reliable machine. As I try to flash the FW, the machine hard freezes (no pointer movement) at the moment I press the...
Clever! I started using a similar process but since the size of the Trinitron CRT was really small (its a Color Classic) I decided to simply glue (double sided 3M superstrong pressure sensitive tape) and then the LCD bolted behind it so it cannot move. The effect is fantastic.
very interesting…. Probably a Takky if that is a Gazelle or similar LB. The board is much longer than the original CC or Mystic LB so extensive surgery may have been performed inside.
