Just for random kicks, why not just emulate the 68060 and all necessary adaptions inside the FPGA? Even better, emulate both the 68040 and the 68060 in the FPGA and find a way to route all 68040 operations to the 68040? While your at, find a way to use them as some kind of dual-core setup that's...
Add an additional linux computer and install netatalk (http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/) hook the printer to that and use it to share the printer to everything on the network.
I can vouch for IrDA working between an iMac G3 and an eMate 300, at least for package sending. It's not particularly flexible, but you can use IrDA Package Installer (http://jerome.vernet.pagesperso-orange.fr/Softs/IrDAPack.sit) by Jerome Vernet if you only want send packages to the Newton...
Nice. Looks better than mine, which has some yellowing on it. Wish I had it with me here at school. I think the one I have has 2 unidisk 5.25 drives (daisy chained of course). That and it'd be nice to have more disks, since mine has a super serial card as well (easy to transfer disk images with...
You did read the first linked article in the first post of the thread, indicating that the software supported scanning on the printhead's return movement as well, right? Granted, the sacrifice of some quality for speed.
If you are going to use a Compact Flash card, you will want the Kallisys ATA driver for the eMate (http://www.kallisys.com/). You can connect the newton to a PC serial port (db-9) if you have a proper (special for Newton eMate?) Mac serial a.k.a. Localtalk (din- 8) to PC serial (db-9) cable...
Haha. My Apple IIe is at home, but it has a color composite monitor. By the way, the video output from those looks quite nice on a decent 23"-25" CRT television.
Someone needs to set up a site to collect links to these things and maybe rank/label them in order of most to least legally bothersome (so that no one else will feel the need to). Obviously Apple should be less of a pain in the ass, and just make this stuff available on an as-is, unsupported, no...
You certainly can't run anything inside the NewtonOS as it's structured very strangely. You'd need either new ROMs or some kind of bootloader that could load linux from the newton os (very unlikely given that the newton os has no design for that). Presumably you'd basically have to redesign...
Quick heads up, bumped into this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Newton-eMate-300-Laptop-4MB-Upgrade-DT320-RARE-K5_W0QQitemZ200504003920QQcategoryZ168057QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26its%3DC%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D5%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6150050758977293733 while looking...
Any chance of a picture? I'm kinda curious how bad it is.
Not sure how you would convert the VGA to the monitor's inputs. You can try reading the pages noted over here: http://www.tuaw.com/2006/02/06/mac-mini-inside-classic-mac-update/ but you'll probably need to run them through google...
The raster part probably refers to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raster_graphics, which is a way of drawing stuff on a screen. Don't why they'd need to say that, I think raster is the way things work right now? Maybe that was a change or improvement at the time or maybe they simply wanted...
Might need to be warmer, read of at least one person using a tea candle holder with burning alcohol to heat the solder on an ibook with a loose gpu problem.. You might try more heat and maybe trying to find a way to apply constant, steady pressure from the time it's hot enough to help til it's...
