    SuperMac Spectrum PDQ Display Issue

Does the PDQ have a resolution-selection menu GUI in its ROM that forces itself into the boot sequence? My SuperMac ColorCard SE/30 does, but it only works correctly under System 6. When booting System 7, when the GUI tries to display it freezes the computer. Fortunately if the GUI doesn't try...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

Scratch that, this was due to an unrelated problem with my disk image. 400K HFS works just fine.

    Designing a Mac-to-VGA monitor sync-splitter adapter

Do you have a monitor with 15.75khz support? I could send you one of the Sync-inators to try it.

Does Apple Parallel Interface card use a non-standard (non-PC) pin out? (aka PLEASE help me get a printer working with my Apple IIe)

If it were working, you would expect the "P" to be printed as soon as you pressed the key, along with every other letter you type, not just the text "HELLO". I suspect your problem is somewhere in the configuration setup, or in the pinout as @NJRoadfan mentioned.

    Designing a Mac-to-VGA monitor sync-splitter adapter

Doesn't the IIgs video output have NTSC timing rather than VGA timing? This adapter should be able to convert the IIgs composite sync into separate h and v sync, but to display a IIgs video signal you'd also need a monitor that supports 15.734 kHz horizontal frequency, and that's not very...

Does Apple Parallel Interface card use a non-standard (non-PC) pin out? (aka PLEASE help me get a printer working with my Apple IIe)

PR#1 will redirect all output to slot 1 instead of the screen, so you won't see anything displayed on the screen.

Mac IIci & cache card questions

The person in the back row, second from the right, appears to be about 16 years old. I wonder how Apple digitized that photo? We take it for granted today that photos are digital files, but what options existed for color photo scanning in 1989? I remember the ThunderScan, which turned an...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

With a 400K HFS image, I've found that Disk First Aid 7.0 complains "this is not an HFS disk", even though it certainly is an HFS disk and it seems work fine otherwise. Hopefully there aren't any other lurking bugs like that in the system software.

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

Does anyone see a problem if I generate 400K HFS disk images with this? As far as I know, 400K disks are always formatted MFS by the Finder, but there's nothing stopping me from making a 400K HFS disk. My reason is that the disk should be no larger than needed to contain the StuffIt file, to...

    Designing a Mac-to-VGA monitor sync-splitter adapter

That was insanely fast! From design to finished product in five calendar days. I'm not even ready to test these yet, so this hardware will just need to sit and wait. How do they fabricate these so quickly?

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

As long as System 7 doesn't balk at finding a System 6 desktop file on a locked disk, that should be fine. I did some quick experiments formatting a disk under System 7, then locking it and mounting it under System 6, and also tried the reverse, and didn't get any errors in either direction...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

Hmm, this issue with CDs and the desktop file will be a problem for auto-generated HFS disk images of StuffIt files too. I'd intended for the auto-generated images to be ephemeral and synthesized on the fly as needed, which would mean they'll be read-only. But if System 6 insists on having a...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

That Desktop Manager extension was exactly what I needed, it works perfectly. Thanks! The Floppy Emu ISO and SCSI image support works on existing Floppy Emu hardware - it's purely a firmware improvement. I'll release it soon, hopefully along with the auto-encapsulation of StuffIt files into HFS...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

Awesome! I will try that extension. They're mounted as read-only HD20-type hard disks that contain the HFS filesystem from the CD. No CD-specific extensions are required.

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

Sort-of related: I'm also working on adding Floppy Emu support for ISO and Toast CD images, and also for partitioned SCSI device images like the ones used with Zulu SCSI and Blue SCSI. This is mostly working now, and just needs a little bit of clean-up. For images that contain a partition map...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

That's a great tool. I'm trying to do essentially the same thing, except as a built-in behavior of the device. I think you're both suggesting something similar, and yes I think that's a good approach. I'll look into it more. I'd thought about this, and yes it could be done, but I think it'd...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

The goal is to make it easier to use StuffIt files with Floppy Emu. Many people are confused about the difference between a disk image and a StuffIt file, because when you grab something off Macintosh Garden you're about equally likely to get one or the other. A disk image can be copied to an SD...

ISO sample code to create an HFS filesystem or disk image

I'm looking for sample code to directly create an HFS filesystem / disk image on a modern computer, where the HFS disk contains a single file that's supplied as input to the code. Ideally this should be platform-agnostic code without relying on third-party libraries or OS dependencies. The file...

    Powerbook 145b carnage

Wow! I've definitely heard about using a drill to make certain no information can be recovered from a drive. This person must have been in a hurry, and instead of removing the drive to destroy it, they just drilled the whole computer. You have to get this computer working now! It will be a...
