Stuff being out of stock is pretty much par for the course with the chip shortage. I guess you could grab the gerber files and the rest from Big Mess O wires and build one from scratch.
I went with a Rominator for my SE/30 reloaded since it provides a little more 'bang for the buck'.
BMOW has discontinued selling the 512k version (https://www.bigmessowires.com/mac-rom-inator/), but it looks like you can still order them from here...
I was just what I had in my spare parts bin. Probably bought the socket because it was available when I needed one for a past project and it was all that was available. The only advantage of gold contacts (if they are gold plated), is that gold doesn't corrode.
Thanks!
The damage is around the EGRET chip (which is missing), so I'm thinking the Color Classic configuration is similar as it uses the same parts. I need to inspect the board for trace rot and order capacitors next, but looks pretty good as far as battery damage goes.
Never mind.
I soaked the board overnight and it looks like the circuit parts I need to replace are the same as the Color Classic parts.
Next step is to tone put the board to prove they are the same, and to look for trace rot.
I know it's a long shot but my Google-fu is weak and not turning up anything.
Does anyone out there have CC II schematics? I just got a battery bombed LB and they would help me repairing it.
Thanks,
C
Thanks.
I feel kinda stupid now that I think about it. I have the Gerber files, all I really need to do was find a viewer and take a look at the traces on the connector . . .
AAAHHHHHH!
So I've got almost everything desoldered from the sacrificial SE/30 board and moved over to the new board, sounds good right?
I just desoldered the PDS connector and of course ONE bloody pin snaps!
Looking at the schematics it seems pins 1, 2, and 41 aren't connected to anything...
You should find a replacement for the metal shield that has rotted away as Apple used that to tie the ground points on the LB together. Also the missing GC3 leg will need to be replaced as it's one of the ground points the shield connects. Otherwise you'll need to wire all the GCx points...
Do we need a handshake?
Going forward, I'm going to assume anyone staring at the ground muttering about analog boards and the lack of schematics, is a color classic owner.
Many thanks to all of you who knowingly (and unknowing) helped me with chips, knowledge and encouragement.
I have a working CC again, but by way of a very weird path.
I recently bought a second unit that was described as junk, and for parts only in the hopes of getting enough bits to make my...
Thanks for the information.
I can't believe I have 2 boards exhibiting the same behaviour, one I recapped (which I need to review) and one from a machine I bought for parts.
This is definitely a discussion I'll be keeping an eye on for tips about this AB.
I have two of these boards that don't work and since analog electronics is not my strongest skill I'd like to ask what might be a stupid question.
Is it safe to power up the AB without having a load on it?
