Cheers, fuzzylogic, for the inspiration.
I’ve uploaded mine to https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6280031
I’m quite happy with the result, though it may not be perfect :)
Now I just wish I had some darker-grey. I’ll try black, might look better.
I was browsing Thingiverse (having looked a month or so ago) and was stunned when all your items popped up the other day. I just want to say a big heartfelt thanks for sharing these, and congratulations on your work. I really like what you’ve done with the display access cover wedge-shaped clips...
Thanks for the insights, especially the notes about conflicting ‘errors’. For what it’s worth, neither of my batteries pass the EMMPathy or Lind testing/programming (yes, the memory is probably faulty) but this doesn’t stop the batteries from working well enough for me - they charge and they run...
Fair enough :D maybe if I had more than one… I guess I can test it myself though. I have a power supply that’s just gone POP yesterday, has a short somewhere that’s not the MOSFET or the transformer-thing (but caused one of the transformer pins to arc) - this seems difficult to fix, so I’m...
That’s amazing, well done! I’d never have thought of trying a memory transplant for the battery :)
The calibration always seems to take a complete discharge/recharge cycle, or two, for EMMPathy to show the measured capacity in mAh. The default after a reset is 1752, mine seems to have come down...
Congratulations - I guess you’ll be making a new battery to turn it on with :)
I’m sure this is probably written elsewhere but…all three non-backlits that I’ve worked on have needed the Hybrid module replaced. Symptoms are: only powers on when the interrupt and reset buttons are fiddled with...
Please keep up the great work :D
Since making a battery for my PB100, I love the idea of having a wireless connection to my G3 Wallstreet AppleShare server. I also wonder whether a similar idea would work with the Powerbook 500-series. I was brainstorming for how to get around the lack of a...
Thanks :) Yes, same LW94D041 on eBay as on AliExpress I think, price a bit higher but I think my US$100 offer is fair.
Do you have any opinion about my cable question? Cubbie036 seemed to have the opposite scenario to me. I’d like to know if the Toshiba TFT cable can be used with the Sharp TFT.
Unbelievably, the other eBay seller of the used Toshiba panel just doubled the price (to US$364). I guess the two or three listings are all the same seller.
I’ve made an offer of US$100 on the Sharp panel (asking price US$138) which I think is fair, as @AEChadwick paid US$80 for it as far as I...
Thanks - good point.
It’s claimed that the Sharp panel is unused. I’ve recapped older mono panels and have a good stock of SMD electros so I’ll take the chance, I think. As long as the cable fits…
Well that’s exciting - so that means I can replace a broken Toshiba LTM09C017 with a Sharp LQ94D041 (which seems to be more readily available) and use the same cable to the LCD? The connectors do look the same in photos.
I don’t know whether to trust any of the sellers of the Toshiba panels on...
So - would a Disk Tools disk with the appropriate control panel be a solution for setting the clock?
I’m just mindful of the practicalities of trying to boot an earlier version on a Powerbook that’s set up with 7.5.
I have a friend with a 165c that this presumably applies to - we’ll see. Need to...
Yes, croissantking is right - same as first photos in that thread and same as described at https://web.archive.org/web/20090108095627/http://home.comcast.net/~macdan/pb_scsi_ata.html (says it came with the Apple 1GB drive).
I gather that it works up to about 8GB drive size, but only 0.5MB/s...
Oh ok - thanks! I wasn’t sure if an adapted IDE drive was somehow degraded in performance compared to a SCSI drive. IDE drives used to be slower but that was a very long time ago.
I edited my post above to include a question about OS versions, sorry I did that just after you read it :) I’d be...
I don’t know how a third-party battery compares to the original, sorry - but in general, I find a sharp chisel around the edges tapped with a mallet is better (safer) than a knife - the impacts help to crack the plastic apart.
I’ve been successful with the two that I’ve done in that they go...
Sorry; I carried the one wrongly ;) it is a 320MB IBM drive, like yours, and seems to run fine.
The shattered remains of the 540c contains a 1GB Apple drive - but it’s IDE! - has an adaptor attached to make it SCSI. Looks genuine. It doesn’t boot but starts to, and then produces a Sad Mac error...
Thank you. Sometimes I wonder why it’s had to be so difficult to get one of these!
It couldn’t be sent directly to me in the first place because of the batteries - shipment was rejected, had to be either returned to sender or sent to that friend of mine in the USA. If I’d known it would take a...
“520 happiness“ was soon balanced out by “540c great disappointment” :(
I bought this from an eBay listing a year ago in great condition. It’s been at a friend’s place in Maryland until last week, when I arranged to have it picked up and shipped to me. I knew about the busted casing, but that...
Imitating the good-news post about the Powerbook 100, I couldn’t resist sharing a happy post about my 520 which arrived a week ago. I’d bought a power adapter previously - which was dead - but recapping it brought it to life.
The 520 came with two batteries both showing the usual corrosion; the...
