What machine would you use for a 24/7 home file server?

I'd be very interested to hear more about this. What do you use to get the -5V ?

What machine would you use for a 24/7 home file server?

Maybe I'll go with an LCII or LCIII. I have a couple here that I need to recap. I think AppleShare 3 can only run on 030's or lower. I've read a couple of the threads about running a Mac Plus or SE headless without the analog board. Couple fit it in a rack mount case if that would work.

What machine would you use for a 24/7 home file server?

For a while now I've been wanting to set up an actual 68k (or PPC) file server running AppleShare with netboot capability for my Apple II's and IIgs'. I've been able to get Basilisk II running where I can get it to share AppleTalk over the network but think I'd prefer to run it on real hardware...

Can anyone lend a hand configuring a Shiva FastPath 5?

I completely forgot about this idea! I took another look at the 10Base-T module and there are three components that would need to be sourced. I’m not entirely sure what the two Valor parts are. 1. Valor PT3868 (common mode choke) 2. Valor PT3877 (choke filter) 3. MB86962 (10Base-T transceiver)...

I was able to get everything setup with MacTCP etc and now I can get online! I appreciate all the help.

Can anyone lend a hand configuring a Shiva FastPath 5?

Thanks for all the replies. It will be a couple days until I have a chance to try them out. Much appreciation to all. If there is reasonable interest on reverse engineering the 10Base-T board, I'm all for giving it a go.

Can anyone lend a hand configuring a Shiva FastPath 5?

I picked up several Shiva FastPath 5's on eBay a year or two ago and have finally gotten around to trying to set one up. Problem is that I don't have a manual and can't seem to find one anywhere. What I want to accomplish is to get my LocalTalk Macs bridged to ethernet as well as get online...

    Netatalk 2.2.9 Released

Hey, not sure if this is the place to post, but I've been trying to install Netatalk on a NetBSD 9.3 virtual machine. I updated pkgsrc from CVS and only see v2.2.6 there, not 2.2.9. Also, how do I start the daemon? I tried putting things like "atalkd_enable=YES" in /etc/rc.conf but can't seem...

    A thread for RackMacs

Man, what we really need now is a project to make a hardware kvm over IP dongle that works with both Mac video and ADB and also somehow can activate a reset switch to reboot a machine remotely. (I have no idea how to do this)

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

For anyone still interested in buying a PCB, JLCPCB is out of stock on some of the bottom board SMD parts so that's the hold up at this point. I'll likely get purple or blue boards. I'm planning on 10-15 as I have at least 5 SE/30's myself that could use new boards.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

I'll be putting in an order within the next few days. I'll be getting several extras

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

I'd really appreciate if anyone who has placed an order with JLCPCB to just verify that the defaults I listed in my previous posts were acceptable, specifically the Outer Copper Weight, Inner Copper Weight, and Material Type. I'd really appreciate it before spending time/money on this.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

Nope, no answers as of yet.

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

If anyone who has placed an order with these with JLCPCB could chime in, I'd appreciate it. If you import a zip of the Gerber files into the website, can I just accept all the defaults (see post #181 above). Thanks for any guidance!

Macintosh SE/30 logicboard recreation (thread revival)

I'm putting together an order for a few boards. Is anyone else interested in any? Also, in the options on the JLCPCB order, what are people using for these options: Silkscreen Technology Surface Finish Outer Copper Weight Inner Copper Weight Material Type The defaults? The default material is...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Yes, everything is wired and the VM is in bridged mode.

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Has anyone else had a problem with running Netatalk under a virtual machine under ESXi? I have it running well on a Raspberry Pi but when I set it up under Debian on an ESXi VM, I can't login. Under System 7.6.1, the Chooser can see the server, but when I choose it, I get an immediate "No...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Just some additional follow-up for anyone struggling to get this running. By default, /usr/local/etc/netatalk/afpd.conf does not have ddp enabled, which does not allow older systems to access shares. Change the -noddp to -ddp and restart the service (on debian: sudo service afpd restart)...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Turns out it was a package called "pkg-config" that wasn't installed. After that, it compiles fine and runs.

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Not working for me. This is on a freshly installed Debian i386 11.3 VM. Here's an outline of what I'm doing: apt install git libssl-dev libdb-dev autotools-dev automake libtool git clone https://github.com/rdmark/Netatalk-2.x.git cd Netatalk-2.x ./bootstrap Fails with the error I listed...
