I’ve been trying to set up a serial console via a Keyspan USB twin-port RS422 adapter, from a PB5300c(7.6.1) to an iMac G5 (tiger) to get the iMac shell on the Powerbook with Zterm or Black Night. I’ve installed the Keyspan drivers and configured the iMac as per these helpful pages, here ...
Also remember now... My iMacG5 wanted an "Alternate" installs, a usual "live install CD" wouldn't work. But a "alternate install CD" would. That was Ubuntu. Even though I could boot from the live CD, the install would fail.
How about booting from a live cd , and check your HD with Gparted ...
Have you used "Guided partitioning" in the debian installer, or "manual partitioning" ?
Maybe better running "Manual.." and doing your partitions from scratch ?
If it can help.
Here a good Debian PPC installation guide :

Strange...
Remember that I couldn't install any Debian on my iMac G5, it would only take a Ubuntu, that was 14.04 i think.
Problem with Linux PPC on a G5 is that G5 use SMU instead of PMU for sleep management, and at the time any Linux PPC wouldn't know what SMU was. So sleep was broken. Which...
Maybe something spilled on that PMU/fan area , and it smell with heat.
Indeed PMU card looks dusty, it’s not too difficult to remove and see how it’s under there and clean it. remove the two torx screws, you should manage to lift the fan too, can remember if it’s fixed with another screw.
A nice one is GregBrowser. A Miller columns browser.

yes Lightswitch is neat. There is a thing called AppTab doing the same i think.
Check Hidden_Finder_Features for trashing stuff with Cmd-delete. Not sure it works old systems (7) though.
God... how dumb...
After years of collecting these , found out the Xcaret expansion hard drive I have can be placed in the LEFT bay too :)
And the battery can go in the right bay too ... all swappable :D
Ever saw a LEFT expansion hard drive kit for the LEFT expansion bay for the Wallstreet ? I’ve found several references about it (for example here : http://www.jonh.net/lppcfom-serve/cache/563.html),but never saw one.
I know you’re mad about it. Yes you do, don’t deny…
These damned missing rubber feet on your beloved Alum PowerBook are making you mad.
Arrgg…
What to do ?… Order a set at in the US (I’m in France) just to get 4 of these ridiculous pieces of plastic, when I need about … ten… at … WHAT ?! 15$ A...
I have one (and I keep it , sorry). Got it when I bought two 5300 wrecks and accessories , that VST drive was with it.
Works with the 3400c too. Your best bet would be to have an eeeebay automatic search notification for any 5300s and 3400Cs , sometimes they are for sale with accessories...
Thanks Sirs .
It compared bad with the mighty Kanga :p It scored 445 with MacBench , when the Kanga scored 747.
The second serie 233 Mhz Wally with cache did 764.
