What should go in the third NuBus slot of my IIci?

    A/UX distinctives...

There isn't really anything special that runs with the System 7 layer except a command line and a load of control panels that say don't change me here, change me in A/UX proper. I've run A/UX "headless" on a number of machines IIcx, IIvx, Q700, I've never run any Mac applications on them. Mac X...

    Anyone have BeOS Developer Releases?

Then it's not much use as a BeOS system, that's like a version of Windows that does not support the Win32 API. Or a UNIX that does not provide the ANSI C library.

Snow Leopard and Classic Mac OS

The difference is that ftp and http are international standards and not tied to any one vendor. The AppleTalk protocols are all, funnily enough, defined by Apple.

How to write 400k disks on 90's 68k?

Until you realize it either isn't going to work (bad), or the number of bad sectors doesn't decrease (good).

How to write 400k disks on 90's 68k?

Even if they are formatted, tape over the hole without the sliding bit of plastic and repeatedly reinitialize until golden brown. HD disks are made the same as DD, they just pass a higher quality standard.

An open letter to the 68kMLA community...

So you can talk about the same wintel crap that all the other technology forums on the net talk about, but you can't mention the real world?

How to write 400k disks on 90's 68k?

How do you mean "it writes them but they are not bootable", do you mean you can write and read them on the 575 the disks are actually 400K disks as seen in "Get info" and they have a blessed system folder containing a System 1 or whatever system file and finder Are they unreadable on the...

    A/UX distinctives...

No position independent code. Static libraries are given a fixed address at compile time and can't conflict with other shared libraries. You can only export functions, not data, hence there is a shared library for X11 but not for Xt. Is similar to BSD sockets. Not really used any more. How...

You'll need to sort out what the problem is, could be dangerous otherwise ( fire etc ).

How much do you like System 7.0.1?

I bought 7 when it first came out and despite coming with no applications it felt like it could do everything. Inside Mac VI was a tome and a half.

Macintosh LC III: System error on fresh startup disk.

    1. Open the case. 2. detach cables 3. unclip plastic clips 4. put in dishwasher Apparently. Note, washing a motherboard is not the same as re-capping.

Macintosh LC III: System error on fresh startup disk.

Interesting, years ago when I did a lot of hardware, one would track down problems with voltmeters, continuity testers, oscilloscopes and logic analysers. Now people seriously suggest putting things in the dish washer. If only all sins could be so easily washed away.

    Unix for 8-bit Apple

No, it was 16bit but could address 256Mb of memory with 18 address lines. A 6502 has 16 address lines but that doesn't make it a 16bit computer. If you went by that argument an 8086 was a 19bit computer and an 8088 was a 20bit computer.

    Unix for 8-bit Apple

The original QNX ran on 8088. It used the 8086 segmented model so a single process could use a maximum of 64k code+data+stack combined. And fork() really worked because it simply copied the whole proces image and used different segment register values. All pointers were, and had to be 16 bit (...

    Anyone have BeOS Developer Releases?

I would recommend against it to avoid spending your time in court rather than infront of a debugger. Surely there is enough knowledge in the public domain of how these machines work, eg Linux on PPC, NetBSD on PCC, etc? So if the purpose of Haiku is binary compatbility with BeOS R5, why the...
