Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
How many "Aw, Snap"s did you get? They have been fairly frequent on this one. Updating it again has helped to a degree but they still appear from time to time.
New Chromebooks around here are at least $150. I wasn't willing to spend that much to try out Chrome OS, but for $25? Yes, please! I figured if I couldn't get it to work it could be stripped for parts.
I took a quick look for a vintage Mac emulator. I found a java-based one but not much...
A few days ago I was doing a random search on Craigslist for computers that cost $30 or less. One of the results was an Acer Chromebook that had a damaged Chrome OS install for $25.
I picked it up today and once I was home downloaded the restore image on another computer, wrote the image to a...
I was going to suggest uninstalling all of the extra crapplications would help speed the Acer up to some degree but someone beat me to it. :)
Can't help with the trackpad though...
Skinny guy with white hair and a beard near the appliance booth? Yes, that's Charile. :) He may still get repairs on occasion since he gave his phone number to long-time customers but I don't expect any until I see them. Since I started at my current employer in 2012 the extra work was nice...
The property the flea market was on and the car dealership beside it was bought to be torn down and a food bank will take its place.
The dealer I helped out was there for 27 years. His doctor has told him to stop working because of his knees so the flea market closing was rather convenient.
Today was the last day the Raleigh Flea Market Mall was open for business. I've been helping one of the the vendors there for many years and picked up a few things from him to prevent him from having to take him home.
Among the goodies:
IBM x3500 Server with a single Xeon processor, 1GB of...
I had several of those Aspire One netbooks at one time in the past. The last one was pink (I'm secure in my manhood :) ) that I gave to my niece. They weren't bad but memory capacity definitely was not one of their strong points. That and having to disassemble it to the chassis and remove...
Never mnid. :)
I found a Newer Technology drive enclosure initially meant for a Mac Mini. I put the hard drive in there and just accessing it on the Ubuntu box is so much faster than it ever was - even through USB - on the NAS enclosure. Now to figure out how to share it to Windows and Mac...
I reset the BIOS on the Bay trail machine and it now has Ubuntu 14.04 installed and sharing its wifi connection over ethernet. I tried Linux Mint Mate 17.1 but couldn't find a simple way to do it on that release of Linux.
This evening I have been playing Diablo II on the iBook. :) I finally...
While I have the Bay Trail machine working again I may either leave the iBook there or try my Lombard to see if it can handle sharing its connection since either of them would take up less space. So far there doesn't appear to be any lag using the shared connection versus using a USB wi-fi...
About two weeks ago I switched from Roadrunner to U-Verse. The modem for Roadrunner was in my office, while the modem for U-Verse was in my living room and on the opposite side of the house.
After buying (and returning) and router/range extender/access point I looked at what hardware I had in...
I booted a Lubuntu 14.04 DVD and it looked a lot like the initial image. The menu bar and the icons on the desktop looked okay but the background was gibberish.
I've been using my iBook G4 1.33ghz off and on lately and noticed something odd when booting 10.4.11. While it has been connected to my home wifi before it always starts with it not being connected. I always have to select the network I can use it.
With 10.5 it automatically connects.
Any...
The model is TEW-421PC. Hardware revision is C1.0R. In the original post it worked on my home and work wireless networks. At my new job it connects but does not get an IP address. The work wireless is using WPA2-TKIP. Didn't know if it was related to the card or the OS.
To eject the drive using Open Firmware:
Command-Opt-O-F
eject cd
mac-boot
When you are starting from scratch MacOS 9 or X isn't on there yet so you can't eject using a menu item.
The dual 867mhz modules are pretty cheap - $10-15.
