    PowerMac G4!

I did remove the battery. It hasn’t leaked, but was 20 years old.

    PowerMac G4!

Today I stopped at a thrift store on the way home. Initially I saw a nice WiFi router, but turned around and saw this: Looked at the price tag: And thought to myself : I would have to be an idiot to not buy this. Now that it is home with me, I can see if it actually works. It’s a 1.25ghz...

    Mac Mini

I did have a 240GB SSD and 12GB of memory to put in it. So far it runs Catalina very well. With the original 4GB memory and the 500GB hard drive it was really sluggish. My Mac Mini has Ventura on it, primarily because I wanted to try MAUI in Visual Studio, which requires a recent version of...

    Mac Mini

Today I got the laptop equivalent of the 2012 Mac Mini: a 2012 MacBook Pro. The eBay seller put MacOS Catalina on it, but I’m doing a reinstall just in case. Since the hardware is almost identical to the Mac Mini, it should be able to use Ventura once I have installed more memory.

I have found that a jar lid gripper seems to work pretty well too.

Powerbook G3 Wallstreet / Pdq / lombard : CF, SSD, SD to IDE

It took a while, but I finally got access to my Lombard.

Powerbook G3 Wallstreet / Pdq / lombard : CF, SSD, SD to IDE

I'll take my Lombard out of the closet and see what I have in it. It has a 32GB CompactFlash card with a CF to 44-pin IDE adapter. I'm pretty sure the adapter is one of those generic ones.

    IPS monitor

Today I picked up a 22” Dell IPS monitor for $8. I thought it had an HDMI connector, but it turned out to be a DisplayPort connector. It also had a HDMI to VGA converter attached to the VGA cable than came with the monitor. It works great with my new to me Mac Mini. It was once a visitor...

    Mac Mini

One thing that annoys me is the plastic cover on the bottom of the unit. It has no grip on the table surface whatsoever. I may have to stick some rubber feet on the cover so the Mac will stay put.

    Mac Mini

It’s a 2012 model. Currently it has 12GB memory from my Dell Latitude until the 16GB I ordered arrives. The 4GB it came with wasn’t enough. After using SSD-equipped computers for so long, a spinning rust drive is extremely slow. It’s currently running MacOS Catalina.

    Mac Mini

I finally got the recovery partition to load by connecting an Apple keyboard to it. It has Mountain Lion (10.8) on it. I’m wiping it and reinstalling 10.8 on it, then I’ll upgrade it to something more recent. It’s a 1024 X 600 panel, but will scale down 1920 X 1080 to fit. Kind of hard to...

    Mac Mini

Bought a Mac Mini off eBay, it arrived a few days early. It was advertised as having no operating system, but found out it still had MacOS installed - but all user accounts are password protected. Comparing against my Ryzen mini PC for comparison. I bought 16GB of memory for it and a 480GB...

    Non-Mac 68k computer

The display is so much easier to read than the TI-92.

    Non-Mac 68k computer

The Nspire didn't work after reassembly. I found another one on Ebay and it arrived today. It's a School Edition TouchPad model. Turning the second Nspire on I found It was in Press-to-Test mode. A little research later and I found how to remove it using a computer.

    Non-Mac 68k computer

The TI-Nspire arrived today. I bought it "parts or not working" and so far has lived up to that label. It appeared to have minor battery corrosion in the past based on residue remaining on the calculator. I took it apart, removed the battery terminals and let them soak in vinegar. I also...

Now, what's going on with this iBook G4?

    Later iBook G4 models came with 10.4 - primarily the 1.33ghz and 1.42ghz models from mid-2005. I have a 12" 1.33ghz model and it won't boot from 10.3.

    Non-Mac 68k computer

I thought the keyboard on the TI-92 would help with programming on it. My TI-GraphLink cable arrived yesterday and I transferred a few TI-Basic programs to the TI-92 and opened one if them for editing.  Programming on it would be tolerable but I'm spoiled by using 2 or 3 monitors on my PC.  :)...

    Non-Mac 68k computer

Found and ordered an inexpensive TI-Nspire Touchpad. With this one I can run vMac on it (32MB storage vs. 256KB on the TI-92).

    Non-Mac 68k computer

If it were eithera TI-92 II or a TI-92 Plus it might be possible. The TI-92 doesn't have enough storage space to handle emulating a Mac. Doing some research i found there is a Mac emulator for the TI-Nspire.

    Non-Mac 68k computer

I bought a TI-86 graphing calculator a few weeks ago off of eBay. The screen had some occasional glitches so I searched for a replacement screen. While I didn't find a screen I found a TI-92 graphing calculator for a little over $20. The TI-92 has a 68000 processor running at 10 Mhz and 256 KB...
