that would be pretty sweet but they think it could be from the late 80's or early 90's. To be honest I'll take anything (especially free) but I'd really rather it wasn't a 5300, I've had a couple in the past and both were truly terrible machines, nowt but problems.
As they are pretty clueless...
So I was having lunch with my aunt and uncle yesterday and we started talking about my mac collection. My aunt mentions that they have some sort of mac word processor in their linen cupboard thats been there for years. A bit more probing reveals that it is a keyboard with, she thinks, a fold...
Tiger has all the drivers for the Radeon 7000 so don't panic, it's not a great card but it is much better then the 128.
Your G4 can take a mix of PC100 and 133 and you should have no problems (I never have) it will slow the 133 down to the motherboard bus speed which is 100 mhz. As for a RAM...
^^yeah, the larger cache made a fair bit of difference. And another thing, Rev 1 motherboard support for 256MB RAM sticks is (in my experience, your milleage may vary) horrendous. I've tried a large number of variations, 256 meg sticks never worked no matter what sort I tried. 128 was the...
The G3 300, even overclocked, is still gonna give you a speed penalty compared to any higher speed G3 because it only has 512k of L2 compared to 1 meg on the rest. I'm pretty sure the beige G3 300 was quicker then the B&W 300 due to it having a larger L2.
I've just installed it. No registering reminder and no WEP problems. Maybe it's been opened up with the latest download?
My 20 meg storage card turned up today, works like a charm. Now I'm just waiting for the bluetooth card [:D] ]'>
Finally got my MP 2000 online using a Lucent WaveLAN silver card. 3 hours it took me to work out the settings! Kudos to the Japanese guy for writing the drivers.
@Bunsen, the 128's without the black heatsink were, IIRC, 128 GL's, the ones with the heatsink were 128 Pro's and had faster RAM and clock speeds.
I think that photoshop filters that are not Altivec enabled will often run slightly quicker on the G3.
The Radeon will support Anti aliasing on older games. You can also get G4 zif upgrades, see here.
Be careful though, the G3 300 will have the dreaded Rev 1 motherboard which was notoriously glitchy with IDE harddrives and stories of data corruption and incompatibility abound. Before spending...
You can overclock the CPU

I've always overclocked my G3's with no problems whatsoever. If you don't mind spending a little bit of cash then a Mac Edition Radeon card is a nice bit of kit too (not the underpowered Radeon 7000).
Works like a charm [:D] ]'> The card was still boxed with the cellophane wrapper intact, never used. Loaded the drivers, plugged it in and got online straight away. However I do think it's time for me to upgrade from Mosaic for compatibility and the sake of my sanity.
This little gem should be arriving next week. Hopefully it'll be an improvement on my p.o.s HtC Windows pda which despite being modern is very unreliable and a bitch to sync with anything, Mac or PC, and the bluetooth rarely works at all.
It's got 48 megs of Ram, no TV card unfortunately but I've just got an ethernet card of fleabay for it. My old 5200 was running system 7.5.5 and felt like a dog, this one with 8.5 is actually much snappier, one of the benefits of not having to emulate the 68k code.
