IIRC I installed all the .pkg files from here:
http://www.unna.org/unnasearch/entry.php?pkey=157
downloaded and installed the wavelan drivers and it eventually worked with a lot of playing around. It's dammed temperamental and a pain in the arse to set up but it does work.
Have you tried the video card in the slower 33 mhz PCI slot instead of the 66 mhz one? My mach 64 wouldn't play nice in the faster slot but was ok in the slower.
It's arrived and I'm pretty impressed. I've actually taken OS X off and gone back to System 9 for a decent retro gaming system:
Sawtooth G4 450 (mobo transplanted into a B&W case)
640 MB RAM
Geforce2 MX
It's very fast under 9! I did have some problems installing the downloaded Nvidia...
I haven't recieved it yet, it was an ebay buy and cost me £7 (£2 more then my Performa 6400 cost me!). I wanted something reasonable for my old G4 450 that didn't break the bank and this fitted the bill. Radeon 7000's were all going for around £25 which is crazy and the Nvidia unlike the 7000...
For my Sawtooth. I've been running the 128 pro in it since I swapped the Radeon into my 9500 and it's not very good under Tiger and the benchmarks for the Nvidia are pretty good (for an old, cheap card).
I have a few mates who work for an Apple reseller and whilst having coffee with one of them this morning he says that a client has just given him a working Macintosh Portable and do I want it! Yes please, how much? Nothing, nada, free! He's bringing it round next week. [:D] ]'>
A work colleague was about to bin a PII compaq laptop she bought for £1. Needless to say I aquired it. It doesn't start up although the battery charge light comes on when plugged in, has a DVD rom drive, unknown RAM and HD. Even if I can't get it running and load on Linux I can still...
If you do have any plroblems getting it up and running or need extra parts then this chappie, http://newtonsales.com/ does sales and repairs. Nothing wrong with putting a bit of money into an old machine of you are going to get some good use from it, besides it is our hobby.
I've found Newtscape to be the best with NetHopper a very close second, a word of warning though, surfing on an eMate is going to be slooooow. It's slow on my 2000 which has a 162 mhz StrongARM cpu, the emate only has a 25 mhz chip.
For email (IMAP) try MailV
and for all your other eMate...
X.3.9 Panther IMHO, its overheads are less then Tiger and you still get most of the functionality. Just make sure you've taken the RAM up to 1GB.
I'm assuming here that you mean a slot loading iMac, if it's a tray loader then any version of OS X is going to be sluggish at best, plus it doesn't...
I have a G3 upgrade in my 9500 and Gauge pro is reporting 300 mhz G3 (correct) 1MB backside L2 (yup) and... 512k motherboard based L3 ??? I can't disable the motherboard cache but I thought the crescendo extension would do that. Is this good/bad/indifferent or is Gauge Pro wrong?
