I think you can upgrade the 280c with a 2300c motherboard. But this would get you to PPC territory if you wanted to stay 68k.

Late response but I did successfully use the Teac drive on my 1400c, it reads any CD I throw at it. However, Toast 4 does not detect the drive as a CD burner...

I might be able to burn the contents of the drive to a cd using my pm8500. I think that would work?

Same thing happened to me. I think it was more than 3 minutes left though. I had to use a PM6100 as the machine to install the system, then used resedit to modify, and then moved the HD over to the IIci.

You're right, its been awhile I thought it was both, but its just the analog board near the connector.

I have done both the "VGA" and "high res" mods. I had less problems with the VGA mod (linked above) and it is easier on the components. You have to modify both the analog board and motherboard.

Has there been any success at all installing OS 9 on an aluminum powerbook? I heard the ROM is coded to not boot 9.2.1.

I have a dougg3 rom and programmer. If someone could help out on the details ill definitely try it.

Mac OS 9 doesn't run on a IIci as far as I know or else I'd give it a shot.

For os 8.5 I did a fresh install for 8.5, and then reinstalled rocketshare on it. Worked just the same as in system 7 which is surprising.

I agree, do the cap now before the board is damaged by leaking. The socketed SE/30 board isn't that rare, but your 50mhz accelerator is ;)

Hey, I just installed OS 8.5 and then OS 8.6 using the information at the sites below. I used a PM6100 as the installer instead of using the "wish I were" extension. (the iici would freeze up during install) Anyway , let me know if you have any questions...

And, to round out possible OS's, here is OS 8.6 with the rocket and daystar card. This is pretty cool because now I can run the legacy software on the rocket and newer software on the machine.
