    TelePort ADB Modem Protocol?

Isn't ADB completely documented? Would it be substantially less work to do that from nothing? I assume you want to reuse their drivers, but are they really that much work?

    TelePort ADB Modem Protocol?

Always wondered about this one. Isn't ADB extremely slow?

Pro Audio Spectrum 16 PatchPanel - Schematic Development for Reproduction

Here is some information on the custom chips: http://www.dosdays.co.uk/topics/retro_review_pas16_pt1.php

Pro Audio Spectrum 16 PatchPanel - Schematic Development for Reproduction

The optocoupler is used for the MIDI input.

Pro Audio Spectrum 16 PatchPanel - Schematic Development for Reproduction

Have you tried following the traces backwards from the jacks? It'll go through at least some passives, maybe the opamps. Either it goes through the custom IC or directly to the port.

Pro Audio Spectrum 16 PatchPanel - Schematic Development for Reproduction

I'm counting 5 quad op amps (LF347) in the half of the board closest to the output, so I strongly doubt it's sending all-digital signals to the Patch Panel. There's also the Yamaha YMF chip, which is a synth IC, and it's companion DAC, the YAC512, so there is definitely something analogue...

Pro Audio Spectrum 16 PatchPanel - Schematic Development for Reproduction

Can the computer tell if the box is connected or not? I'd put a scope on it to see what the computer is sending to the box. The MIDI lines, for instance, are bound to be more or less straight through and easily identified. As for the audio, one technique that was common in musical instruments...

    Reducing noise in a 7100 - thoughts?

I put a Noctua in the PSU in mine and found it did make quite a bit of difference. I also replaced the CPU fan, but I don't remember with what. As far as I remember it was hard to find something that fit. All in all it's quite a bit better now, but not perfect.

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC Logicboard

I've made a couple of boards with QFPs and I'm not sure I will again unless forced. I had access to a fairly good setup with an oven and used stencils, and every time I populated one it was 5 minutes in the oven, then hours of sweating, shouting and self-loathing as I tried to clean up all the...

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC Logicboard

Amazing work! Fingers crossed :) The LC was our first family computer. I wonder where I'd been without it.

    6100 - SCSI2SD v6-worthy?

I don't have OS 8 on anything. My 7100 (my best Mac friend at the moment) is on 7.6.1, mostly for the look, and my Lombards and Sawteeth are on 9.2.2. Is it really significantly heavier than, say, 8.6? I feel like very few things were taken away in those last few years, not in the same way that...

    8100/100AV Overhaul

I don't have any input except that if it's not temperature-related, it could be an error in the soft power circuitry. There's some sort of relay in there, and possibly a flip-flop that controls it. Mostly I'd just like to thank you for documenting your troubleshooting. It's very useful to have...

    Active ADB extender?

I bought a 5m S-video cable with the naive expectation that it would be possible to put my 7100 in a cupboard. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work. Sometimes I can get the keyboard to turn the machine on, but it doesn't work after boot-up. I am running an Extended II, teardrop mouse, and a...

External LocalTalk / serial port clocks

Not sure if this helps at all, but all the simple passive MIDI interfaces work like this. MIDI is a serial port at 31.25KHz, which the Mac can't do natively, so to do MIDI you need a breakout box that supplies a 1MHz clock. I have schematics for something like this somewhere but my Macs aren't...

    PowerMac 7100 and 7200

Yeah. "The worst one", I think. It came stock with a 601 as the only PPC machine, but can be upgraded as I remember.

    PowerMac 7100 and 7200

Well, they're undesirable unless you happen to have a Nubus card you want to use, or are just interested in this (brief, transitional) period of Apple's history. I paid 200 euros for a 7100 off eBay for a project (vintage ProTools music setup) just a few months ago and I'm very happy with it...

Not exactly a Mac, but I picked up a distant cousin: an HP PA-RISC 712/100 workstation!

Isn't a daisy chain when devices have an in and out and you connect one to the other? In SCSI all devices are connected in parallel, even on external cases that have two ports, they're just paralleled together. I think that's what's meant by a Y-cable.

Any PDA's/Palmtops that can connect to a classic 68K Mac?

https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/psimac-10 Have you looked at the contents of the second archive in this link? Not sure what "other Psion Mac software" covers.

Any PDA's/Palmtops that can connect to a classic 68K Mac?

I think System 7.1 was current when the original Newton was released, but I don't know the exact requirements of the Connection Kit. It'd certainly be the most appropriate, but might be hard to find at a sane price... edit - haha, sorry, didn't see you'd already dismissed the idea!

    Lombard LCD replacement?

Hey! I have a G3 Lombard with a rather dim display, dimmer than I'm assuming they came from the factory. I'm wondering if I can replace the backlight or panel? I also just tripped over a guide to replace the 12" Powerbook's LCD with a higher resolution one (1400x1050) - I don't know if that's...
