Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Wonderful! You can still do a lot with 7.6 ... just ask the System7Today guys.
Just to give you an idea of what's possible with the 1400, mine has a G3/466 CPU, 64MB of RAM, Ethernet, modem, 4GB hard disk and 8-bit video out. I have an ORiNOCO wireless card for it too. With RAMDoubler 9, it...
I'm sure it's in Apple technical docs somewhere, but this is just from personal experience. 10.2 is the last version that works with any AppleTalk server you throw at it.
AFP 2.2 is the version of the protocol, not the version of the server software. 3.0 was introduced with 10.0. I forget where...
It would still be incompatible even under Classic, because Classic routes through the kernel's networking for shared drives, not through its own. The last version of OS X that fully supported EtherTalk-based AFP (AFP 1.x/2.x) was 10.2. On that version, you could use the Chooser in Classic to...
I use an EtherLink III card in my 1400c which works just fine with my 10/100 hub. Disclaimer: I maintain the driver.

The Farallon card sounds like it's operational. If you wanted to try something else, I maintain an EtherLink III driver here ( http://www.floodgap.com/retrotech/mac/enet3c589/ ), but I actually suspect the problem is on the router side. Does your router work fine with other 10Mbps devices? Have...
LCGuy's warning needs to be a little more strongly stated. "Not electrically compatible" == "risk of damage to monitor and/or LC". The IIgs monitor only works with the IIgs, and that's *if* you can find the DB-15 cable, which was detachable on that model.
So while I was getting the Yamaha connected, the iMac made a massive sparking noise, shut down and will not power back up.
I think I opened the F901 fuse (which is replaceable), but I'm toying with just swapping the housing out with the blueberry iMac I have in storage rather than screwing...
I'mma post a picture of the room when I let myself finish, but mcdermd is the best solderer of all time.
In answer to your question, the HARMONi kit replaces the port panel on the side with its own. It has a FireWire port on that, and a punchout below which I assume is where another one might...
I successfully pushed my luck. I now have a strawberry iMac G3, with an optical drive that will actually read discs the G5 burns for it, 512MB of RAM, a working FireWire port in both 9 and 10.2 (it detects my DV digitizer in iMovie and can record from it), and 600MHz of powah'. Cleaned it...
Right, just the RAM. Besides, the Wally is "only" 292MHz. :I
I think I've got it jury rigged, but I'm going to push my luck. It doesn't look like the daughterboard needs all the contacts to function (FW400 has six lines, but only four are data and the two powerlines come from a separate tap...
Well, this definitely didn't go as expected.
First off, I managed to wreck the HARMONi's FireWire daughterboard trying to transplant it. I thought I had all the standoff screws removed and I didn't, and managed to pull off one of the headers. The main G3 card is fine, but the FireWire bus is...
So today I picked up a blueberry iMac G3 (tray-loading 333MHz) as a board and system spare for my strawberry iMac which I plan to put in the music/guest room, but it came with a bonus ... not only was it in the proper (if wrong colour) iMac G3 box, it also sported a 600MHz Sonnet HARMONi card...
