Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Awesome to see that helped, and now I definitely need to reflow mine! funny that it ended up being a relatively simple thing that all of us typically do with compact Macs.
Thank you to everyone that helped narrow down this issue, but particular shoutout to AwkwardPotato, and Techknight(who...
Yeah, I had to use a piece of breadboard wire(but a paperclip should work too). negitive probe you can just attach to a metal part of the chassis if you have a clip on connector.
If there's anything I can do as far as getting measurements or pictures or whatever to help troubleshoot ried's...
When you have a chance, see if you can measure the -12v line on your power supply when it has the issue.
Looking at the power connector on the board, it's pin 12
AwkwardPotatos theory of that line going out of spec seems like a reasonable one
(not to turn this thread into a sound related post. i'd edit the above comment, but am way past the 45 minute edit window. besides a final update on what the sound issue ends up being, I'll put any new sound issue questions in a new thread)
I swapped the chip, and have some success! sound...
Good news is, I've run mine for like an hour+ a couple of times this weekend and it's been stable. I checked the -12v and it's showing pretty much perfect.
Running it again without the shielding on, in hopes that it will do it again, so I can see if there's a drop in the -12v rail.
My last...
video still going strong. will test some more tomorrow
still no audio though. both headphones and internal speakers.
tried without AIO ribbon connected, same thing
reseated personality card, same issue
I checked with mac84, he has a g3 AIO board on his bench, headphones plugged into...
redid all the joints that go to the CRT tube, and the connectors. both analog board and neckboard. no difference. in fact, as soon as i turned it on it was the messed up display.
One theory I have(for mine at least), and potentially ried's) is heat.
When I was messing with it yesterday, just...
let it sit for like an hour. Screen is normal again. Same voltage from that last pin still. About 127v. So that’s not the issue.
Maybe reflowing all the connectors might help?
Edit: lasted about 10 minutes before funkyness again
So a bit of an update
I went to test the voltages from the back of the neckboard, and I turned the machine on, and display was fine!(except needing a focus ajustment). Had it running for about 10 minutes, and then it started having the issues again. (No sound, but I have the motherboard out...
I'll hopefully have a chance to check either tomorrow night or this weekend.
Would an issue with the G2 or Focus wiring potentially cause this? I had to splice+solder them from the neckboard to the new flyback
video amp IC is mc13282ep

Should I check
Pin 9, 17 (power supply voltage)
And then
2,4,6,8,10,12?(Video amplifer inputs)?
G2 and Focus are the 2 wires coming off the flyback I assume?
This seems to be a semi common issue, so I wanted to get all my notes in one place
bsteckler:
Replaced flyback with the one from Technotronic Dimmensions(same part number, but different revision), recapped analog board. Fine for about a month, then had this issue. Replaced PRAM battery, issue...
Did you replace the flyback too with the one from Technotronic Dimensions?
edit:
Do you have a PRAM battery in your board?
I talked with bsteckler(OP) through PM's yesterday/today and they said one of the things they did was use a new PRAM battery. Have had it on for 20-30 minutes with no...
For anyone looking for recap services,
I see Amiga of Rochester on Facebook/Twitter still pretty actively, so one of those places might be the best place to contact him.
