As a follow-up I think the issue was with Netatalk 2.2.1. I dropped down to 2.1.6 (I have no need for Lion Time Machine backup capability) and everything works fine.
Inspired by gavo's Linintosh server, I'm trying to build a more minimal and up-to-date one here using Debian. I have netatalk 2.2.1 up and running, but it seems that I can only connect over TCP. This is a problem for older systems (a problem I don't have with Linintosh). If I try to connect over...
I've been running my 7500 battery-less for the last few days and the combination of Network Time and PRAM Auto Restore is working fine. The only minor complaint is that Mac OS complains about the date/time being wrong on boot before Network Time has a chance to fix the time. By the time I hit...
That's one of the better clone ATM screens I've seen. In fact, I think it's the first one I've seen that actually changed the Mac OS 8 one. This was usually done by the Mac OS Licensing Extension. I've been mildly obsessed with clones for a while now, trying to gather info and install media. I...
I finally got around to trying out LocalTalk Bridge. It's amazing!
Neither of my two compacts have ethernet and now that I have A/UX on the SE/30 I feel the need for networking. So I ran some tests with the Classic II (as it had plain ole Mac OS installed) and everything just worked. I'm...
It might be possible to dump the rom with some random ppc linux distro and the right tool. That way you would just need a livecd of some kind and maybe a usb stick to save the file to. Saves installing a whole OS.
It's a straight swap (the CPU is on it's own board). I didn't get the original 601, it came with the G3. I just swapped it out for a 604 to play about with Copland and old BeOS stuff. I want to use it for my occasional printing needs (I've only got a CSW1500) as the 5400 is a bit tight with 32MB...
Hmm, y'know I think it might be just the battery. I put in another one that I thought was good. The chime was louder than usual but it fired right up. Then I got the date/time is wrong error. I left it a while with no battery installed, tried again and it fired right on up too. Both times the...
Yup, I have the RAM interleaved correctly. I tried what you suggested but it didn't change anything.
I put the 604 back in and ran a set of tests with MacTest Pro. It passed all of them and I'm now redoing the RAM/VRAM tests on the long settings so that's going to take a while. So assuming...
My 7500 originally came with a G3 card. I swapped it out with a 604 so I could play about with some old systems that didn't like the G3, but now I'm done with those and I've put the G3 back in.
Since doing this, often the 7500 won't start up from a cold boot. It'll chime, the fans power up and...
Has anyone got this running in VirtualBox?
It fails to setup the networking here. During the boot it renames eth0 to eth1 and then fails like so. I'm guessing it can be fixed inside the VM but I don't know where to start with linux.
Figured it out!
Log in as root, run yast and delete the eth0...
It was late enough when I got it up and rolling so I just used the camera for the pics. There's no ethernet card so I'd have had to link it up to another Mac over LocalTalk to get any sort of networking going. The floppy drive not working also cancels out sneakernet.
It hasn't crashed yet, but...
Most of my Macs have came from online adverts. Landfill/recycling centre liberations are rare (only my iMac so far). However, this one was special in that the seller delivered it to me. First time I didn't have to travel to get it.
Yesterday I got this SE/30. My previous conquest (IIfx) is still dead and I spent so long trying to troubleshoot it that I just burned out. At some stage I'll go back to it again, but it probably won't be anytime soon.
The SE/30 came with an external zip drive, install floppies and a box of...
