Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I just added the folders in the Shared Folder section of the VM, set whether I wanted them readable or not and set them to automount. They then show up in the emulated Debian in the /media folder.
I have one folder (Shared Folder) that is writable but I can't overwrite or delete files from the...
Yeah I'm on Squeeze here too. The VBox Additions do work (I'm using them), but you need to compile them (yay linux!) from the additions CD. Instructions are here. But here's how I did it (this is what I have in my notes):
Also I found out the version number of the AppleShare update to get System...
Chances are people with that kind of money are buying machines like these as investments. Unlike paper money their value can only go up as there's a finite amount of working examples left.
See, I said I wasn't very linux literate. libdb-dev are the Berkeley DB libraries.
Also, I don't know if it has any bearing on the System 6 side of things, but neither of those compacts had ethernet. I had them connected via LocalTalk to a 7500 running LocalTalk Bridge.
Here's my conf files. On System 6 the shares were initially mounted read-only. When I updated the AppleShare Client to whatever version would run on System 6 (I can't remember now and those Macs are gone) I was able to write as well.

I haven't tried 2.2.4. I'm working on the if-it-ain't-broken principle. I'm not very linux literate either and had to google up every step of the way so I took notes as I went along. This guide was helpful, particularly with setting up avahi (which enables auto-discovery for OS X). It also...
I found Netatalk to be the best solution for AppleShare. I have 2.1.6 running in a Debian virtual machine and have connected to it with System 6 up to 10.8. I had problems connecting without TCP/IP with 2.2.1 so I've stuck with 2.1.6 ever since.
Hey all
It's been a while since I checked in here, but you never really leave Classicville. I'm trying to kit out my G4 as a OS9-based DAW with whatever freeware and old licences I have. I have a licence for Live Lite 4 but Ableton don't have the OS9 installers anymore and it seems to have...
When I got my first B&W G3 it had 1GB of RAM (4x256) installed, but only 512MB was showing up. When I put the same sticks into my G4 Gigabit Ethernet all 1GB showed up.
Maybe RAM density is playing a part here. I've been working with PCs for years but only came across density recently when...
Sheepshaver's lack of MMU emulation is the reason it won't run higher than 9.0.4. I'm not sure how easy/hard/possible that would be to patch out of 9.2.2.
Yeah, it wouldn't have been practical with System 7, but of all the System 6-capable Macs, only the Classic got the built-in System. It strikes me as odd that they didn't extend this to any of the other 6-era Macs like the IIfx.
The original Basilisk emu (not Basilisk II) supported just the Classic. I managed to boot into the desktop on the built-in ROM but it would crash if I tried doing anything in it.
According to the Basilisk II site it supports Classic emulation. But I never tried going that low.
ShadowKiller will take care of disabling window shadows. I haven't tried it though as I ran Panther on the iMac.
I had Tiger on my iBook but that was 800Mhz and had the 32MB Radeon card so it was a bit nippier.
Yeah the Java updates for 10.4 are ridiculous.
For tweaking the system I swear by...
