    400Mhz Pismo

So I installed Linux Mint PPC. thanks so much for suggesting it. it runs better than OS X, gives me a modern OS and it runs very nicely. Now I just gotta wait till that 44-pin IDE -> LIF/ZIF adapter gets here. Then I will be rocking with Solid State. Btw, the battery in this is all screwed...

    400Mhz Pismo

Something doesn't add up. I see specs that it is ATA-2, but ATAPI Support didn't come out till ATA-3, which supports 33MB/s, and the DVD-ROM on this is ATAPI. Did apple modify their controller to do custom things? Also I think this system reported SMART status on the hard drive I have in it...

Farallon Net. Card for LC - PLCC socket?

does the chip have a small dot/indentation on it? that would be Pin one. That needs to go into the area where pin 1 is. check really close. Usually they put it on socketed chips.

    AppleShare Auto Logon

In the system folder, there is a folder called "Servers" or something. delete what's in there. That should solve the issue.

One more question. What is the max speed (in MB/s) of the ATA bus. I see ATA-2, but that doesn't tell me much. Is that 16MB/s or 33MB/s?

    400Mhz Pismo

Yes, Linux certainly is an option. Does anyone know if these are true New-World machines, or did that start with the Pismo. I mean, how similar is this to the Gossamer/Beige G3. It seems to carry the Gossamer chipset (as noted when starting OS X) but the question relates on how new this...

    400Mhz Pismo

you mean virtual memory? not needed under OS 9. it would be more helpful under OS X really. I might bump it down to 10.3 since Tiger just CONSUMES RAM. Even with 512MB I am hitting swap shortly after booting. Does anyone happen to know what the typical running RAM usage under Mac OS 10.3.9...

    400Mhz Pismo

RAM just got here and is now installed. It saw half of it (like expected) and now I am cruising with 512MB RAM :) I installed 10.4 on the machine. I haven't booted into it yet, but as it was, I was hitting swap file HARD with 360MB RAM. 512MB should help that...

    400Mhz Pismo

These are the pics. the machine is in really nice condition. It shipped with little to no scratches. Battery lasts 2-3 hour and charges all the way. Took 6 hours to charge initially The logo. Should've noticed this as it was in the pic on eBay, but it wasn't a clear picture. Oh well...

    400Mhz Pismo

Oops, yeah, that's right. It's just "PowerBook" Anyways, been a long time since I had a Pismo, so I forgot about that until I received the machine. I went on the fact that the guy listed it with a 100Mhz FSB. I know the Lombard had 66Mhz, so I thought I scored a really nice machine. Which I...

    400Mhz Pismo

Yeah, I pretty much only told him in a PM then left him Positive feedback with "Excellent seller, friendly and shipped quick!" Btw, to show how fast this shipped, I bought this Sunday night, it was in my hands by 9AM this morning. I am on it right now at a coffee shop. I had to buy the...

    400Mhz Pismo

The only ADB Peripherals I have is mice (tear-drop) and ADB Keyboards. I would much rather have USB. I can do more with that. I dug out an old WiFi card that I have a SN and app to make it work under OS 9. It will work great. While it doesn't have FireWire, I probably don't need it. It would...

    400Mhz Pismo

Actually, it's in extremely nice condition, and I have a Wifi card already. I bought upgrades and they would go to waste. Even if I put the 512MB SODIMM in it, it will still recognize half of it (256MB) which is fine, and the fact it has another 256MB Low-Density Low-Profile DIMM makes it...

    400Mhz Pismo

AAURRRGGGHH!!!! The guy sent me a Lombard! it has a SCSI port, not FireWire... I am going to have to think about this. I don't think the guy realized that it was a Lombard, considering it was 400Mhz (higher end) with 8MB video. I should have asked if it had FireWire 400 on it. Well the good...

    400Mhz Pismo

Supposedly the Pismo was going to be here today, but it looks like it will be here tomorrow. Talked to the guy and he said USPS told him it would be here by tomorrow the latest. I didn't see it on the porch, but I may not have looked hard enough. Oh well... I will check when I get home and...

    2.5" SCSI SSD Project

Yeah, I understand that, but wouldn't designing a SCSI to IDE adapter be easier than designing a whole SCSI to Flash drive? I would think that since SCSI to IDE has already been developed, there would be more documentation out there on the process. I seem to recall that there were a ton of...

    2.5" SCSI SSD Project

all you really need to do is replicate the SCSI/IDE bridge in the PB 5xx series, then use that to put a 44-pin IDE->LIF/ZIF adapter, then a LIF/ZIF SSD. It would be the easier way than developing a whole system just for it. it would probably be more compatible too. I would be willing to...

    400Mhz Pismo

I got the hard drive on eBay, but this is the procedure/pics for the Hard Drive installed You first start by removing the screws located under the battery (you have to remove the battery) There are two screws, the lower: once you remove the screws, you pull the keyboard back, then up and away...

    400Mhz Pismo

The 1030nr is actually the second one I have owned. I bought one a few years ago, the Linux version, and I ended up selling it. My friend (which is disabled) bought one for school, but when he stopped going to school, I ended up buying it off of him and gave it to my dad. He used it for a year...

Next week, I'll be in 7 Heaven!

I have an LC II. It's pretty neat, even if horribly crippled (16 bit bus on a 32 Bit CPU? *Blech*) . Do yourself a favor. Max the RAM and the VRAM (10MB and 512KB Appropriately), put a fast hard drive in it, and try and see if you can clock-chip it. You can get ethernet cards relatively...
