Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Could this be cache related? If I recall these aftermarket upgrades would need third party extensions or drivers to utilise the L2 caches on the processor. Now if the system folder in question had an extension that accessed the processor or hardware on the processor daughtercard directly, this...
Surprised there wasn't at least a few replies here.
From what i've heard over the years it's quite a premium mouse. Along with being quite comfortable to hold, it also has laser tracking and that new free-spinning scroll wheel. Considering how much you paid for it, it's certainly a good...
Apple wouldn't stock RAM for a machine of that age anyway. I don't even believe you can order RAM prior to the G5 these days (possibly some very late models of G4).
Having worked on both these machines more times than I could possibly remember (and still counting!), I can safely say there's absolutely no chance of sticking the two together. Not to sound as though i'm not up for some good old fashioned hackery, but you'd have to do the equivalent of...
Thanks. Mostly quiet actually, don't really have any family and only a couple of friends at best, but those couple of friends have been great. So i'm not disappointed. Certainly wouldn't have minded a bit of a bash though. Saturday for sure. :)
Currently have the MacBook at work, we've given...
That's right, i've advanced another level today, to the age of 19. Since for the most part i'm a quiet fellow (har), i'm unlikely to receive any gifts. I'm perfectly fine with that, spending time (see "getting smashed") with the people I care about is really all that matters to me.
What does...

Really need to get this out there on a few mirrors. I don't normally need to change my box.net contents, but I can't guarantee it.
I've blown one PAV assembly in a G3/600 from excessive heat. The machine still worked, but it took a while to build up the required charge for a successful illumination of the tube and the horizontal sweep. Even once it was running, it would dim and brighten, flicker, etc. (That board has since...
I can vouch for possibly the keyboard being the issue. The last Sawtooth (converted to Gigabit Ethernet) that I used would always eject its drive on startup and would never boot from an optical disk provided I had a standard Windows labelled USB keyboard connected. I assume it's due to...
Leopard contains both PowerPC and Intel code on the one disc and installs both during setup (technically it would be way too difficult to keep separate binaries or only install the specific binaries). So you have at least twice the operating system right there, not counting additional components...
In regards to the Designing Cards and Drivers book, perhaps this may be of some use?

Just a follow up, I changed the battery over with a 900mAh replacement from Jaycar electronics. After a couple of hiccups starting the hard drive again (went over the ribbon cable, reseated), it's finally up and running. Charging now.
Total cost of this iPod is $23. :)
What still needs to be...
Just for fun, I took the Dual 533 processor out of the Digital Audio and fitted it in the QuickSilver (making sure to disconnect the QS CPU 12v Rail, not needed for the DA chip) which normally has an overclocked 733MHz Single at 800MHz. I'm surprised at how well it crunches, cutting through 320...

That's G4FanControl 0.5. Under Leopard the UI itself is pretty useless (although you may have better luck), otherwise the command line version is included if you don't mind using the Terminal a little. The command line version works fine under 10.5. Perhaps...
Ahh, the Macintosh PowerExpress. One of my favourite prototype systems to come out of Apple. Shame so many of them in the wild are incomplete (and even those rare few never made it outside the USA), but just having one of those boards would be brilliant, imho. I'll watch this thread closely, I...
