    MacBook!

Last one of these I worked on with that issue, it turned out to be a stuffed fan. First thing to check is for any thermal related problems that would be shutting down the system as a form of protection. May wish to also look into a replacement top case for it and see if that makes any difference...

JB Weld + broken TiBook hinge = success

WD40 makes for a decent enough solution for this purpose if the display assembly doesn't open and close relatively freely. Partially due to this reason: In a nutshell, it's an oil that can get into tight spots. Like a notebook hinge. It's a decent enough start when it comes to the relatively...

JB Weld + broken TiBook hinge = success

Especially don't drop them with the LCD open. I may as well have thrown mine across the room (which I could well have done, worst computer i've ever owned). Seems that the biggest issue is hinge over-tension leading to failure. Best way to test for this is to place the machine on a desk or...

    An SE/30 and a MBA 1th gen

I'm pretty sure the battery connector on the MacBook Air is surface mount, but with exposed legs which does make a repair or replacement of the connector possible. If the connector is broken on the battery side however, this is even easier as you can just replace the battery pack. Personally I...

    A Mystery Box.

So, I have this box here. I'll spare you the full back story but in a nutshell, I gave some old 2.5" IDE hard drives to my co-worker in the Service Department for use as Apple Diagnostics drives. Today I came in here and saw this on my desk. Now, i'm still at work. I'll open this up when I...

AGP Graphics --> Gigabit Ethernet upgrade possible?

You can, although you do need to make a small change to the power supply to do so. AGP Graphics Logic Board Power Connector Gigabit Ethernet Logic Board Power Connector The big difference is in the positioning of the trickle (TRKL) pin. On the AGP Graphics pinout, this pin is a +5v rail...

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

Time for some photos, I believe. First two were taken during the LCD replacement in OzMac's service centre. On a sidenote, does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with this? Picked it up with the iMac. Still pondering what to do with it, I mean, the keys are good, trackpad not so...

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

Sounds like a plan. If the CPU's slightly chipped on the corner, it depends if any of the pins have been damaged. If all the pins are intact, chances are the traces are fine. If you mean the CPU die though, could be a different story. Either way, I won't know until I test it. Will send a PM...

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

That CPU is absolutely the correct one, Intel T7400, 667MHz FSB, Merom Core. Once you have a price figure on it, let me know. :)

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

PM sent. What generation is the 2.13GHz? Pretty sure to work in the iMac it has to be: - Merom - 667MHz FSB - FCPGA6 (Socket M) Wikipedia has a list of compatible CPUs, it has one of the T2xxx Core Duos in there at the moment, and I know a T5600 and T7200 will work (1.83GHz and 2.0GHz...

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

Well the CPU I have my eye on at this stage is $65 plus international shipping, so i'd be shipping it from elsewhere anyway. Entirely possible that if you have one or two of the CPUs up for grabs, I may be able to arrange something.

Just for the record, Apple has exempted the LCD panel parts and labour charge, so i'll be getting a new LCD for this thing in the next few days, tomorrow at the earliest. So i'm thinking... Twice the Power, None of the Price.

The serial number starts with W861. I may give AppleCare a call regardless and see if they can throw a CS code my way. If they give it the go ahead, i'll probably buy a Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz 4MB L2 FCPGA, seem to be fairly cheap these days) and install it in there for a much needed speed...

Oh really... I think i'll be speaking to AppleCare tomorrow then.

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

Checking in to let you all know that we had our first disposal machine in a while come through the shop yesterday. It basically involved stripping the hard drive out of it, transferring it to a newer machine and then leaving the remaining parts out on the side of the road for collection. Since...

Not so much a conquest but a rediscovery

The 512K sounds like it has a dry joint. If you don't hear a chime, a constant repeated ejecting sound from the FDD and a white line on the display (or nothing at all) then i'd suspect the solder joints on the analog board before replacing the caps. When I opened my machine up, I saw this in a...

    Mac Plus Clicking

Possible simple fix here, but this issue was resolved on my machine by resoldering the legs of the Flyback Transformer. The joints looked fine, but clearly one of them had a hairline fracture. Machine's worked fine ever since.

    blue & white razor

Leopard would need Yikes and Gossamer Kexts copied in even to have a chance of booting. I have said Kexts, but they're extremely rare so I doubt he would be running 10.5 on it, and that doesn't even take into account the machine would need a G4 processor upgrade in it. I have had the audio...

    Kodak DC40 (QuickTake's brother)

Believe it or not, i've just discovered I have a PhotoNow floppy, still sealed, on the inside jacket of the PhotoNow manual. Pretty sure I have PhotoFlash for the Mac as well. Could be worth imaging, I think.
