Those 8600/9600/G3 cases were so nice to work in - very easy to open and access. Fans made a bit of noise though.....

I'm not sure what causes it, column driver electronics seems feasable I guess. This happened to a 520c owned by a friend of mine, but there were a lot more lines on his one....until we swapped out the LCD.

So the batteries (which were never that good anyway!) are stuffed.... why is it so important? I'm just curious is all...if it were up to me I'd throw the batteries and put cages on both sides, and insert as many cards as i could ;-)

You know I never found Sytem 7.6 that great. For the hit it takes on performance, when compared to 7.5, then you may as well go for OS8. So either downgrade or upgrade the OS in my opinion :)

How important is the data? Not important enough to want to keep the HD that will be replaced and not given back under the Applecare plan?? If the data is that important then do yourself a favour and screw Applecare. Buy yourself a replacement HD and swap it out yourself and that will take care...

There'a a termination switch on your ZIP drive - try flickimg it the other direction to what it is now....

I reckon you need a lower version. Stuffit Lite 3.5(?) comes to mind. There is another program you can use but I can't remember what it's called!
