It’s for an Apple MPEG Media System LC/PDS card that connects via a ribbon cable. As the name implies it decodes MPEG video using specialized hardware.
I use a DB-15 to VGA cable with my 6400 connected to a LCD display (LG Flatron 17"), no switches needed, no big assembly protruding from the back of the case. I bought the first cheap cable that I found, worked well right away.
But, the people behind the takky mod should have had access to the wiring diagram of the edge connector of the 5xxx/6xxx line in order to adapt it to the Color Classic? So this wiring diagram should exist somewhere! And if they reverse engineered it from an actual 5xxx/6xxx machine, it’s...
I concur, if you have the ability to flash it, the XFX 6200 ‘WANG’ is one of the best video card for the Cube. I have one in mine, with a custom made heatsink:
It just happens that I have in my stash an old power supply (from a broken external FireWire disk) that has this very plug!
And I can confirm that it fits perfectly in the Cube socket. (I didn’t check for height clearance, an angled plug might be necessary)
The cube psu plug is definitely not a mini-din. Everything is too small in a mini din, the outer diameter, the pins, the current rating…
And if the Amphenol one is a standard din plug, I think they’re too big!
