Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

well technically a 6400/6500 logic board does fit into the desktop case but (as I have already thought about) the monitor-out and tv tuner bay both would have to be done away with tho to make use of a 2-pci riser instead of the 6360-default single-pci riser so its not exactly a "reversible hack"...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

@Trash80toHP_Mini yeah I mean its not like if I could really want to find out what the board would actually think of trying to run a more simple windowed game at 1024x768 @ millions of colour .. but mm yeah that resolution+colour combination for texts&graphics was the main reason for regarding...

G3/350 (Slot Loading - Blueberry) Logic Board upgrade

other than for that the i/o panel had a few different variations (particularly with or without firewire port, especially that specific one cpu+firewire upgrade from sonnettech) and that you might have to recheck if the exact same flybacks/etc was extant between tray-days first and snowy last...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

mm yeah @Powerbase can't argue with you, even then I kinda have to wonder.. 50mhz system bus, with 4mb vram, and either the default 2-pci or that "hack-in" 3-pci being all filled up one way or another = very blazing mac yet its still a desktop so it seem smaller than what it really is :-) *me...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

wonder how come I never heard of this before but hmmm interesting, might make me rethink about these 6400 boards again if they indeed can handle 50mhz .. only if it wasn't for the vram but mm ah well say no more

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

I kinda have to agree on the lack of automatic MACs, and although a bit unrelated I've seen many stories both from reddit specifically and much earlier on from web in general regarding dhcp-and-static mixed networks becoming quite flunky because someone decided to blindly set a static ip that...

    Mac OS 7.6.1 on a Beige G3

@NJRoadfan hmm well..naturally because its still a pre-G3 logic board and everything? :->

    Mac OS 7.6.1 on a Beige G3

might be offtopic but still, read on; as I recall 7.6 was supposed to be updated one more time (after having had been 7.5x then before that 7.1, etc) but apple was starting to take a dim view of clones and not surprisingly one of the best way to work out the legalese was to simply not make it a...

    Holiday card software?

geeze this reminds me of the printshop for apple's (rather than mac's) from a long time ago re family computer .. and like ymk said it is quite very much good at folded cards and even "as long as your fanfold paper supplies can take" banners

    Beige G3 jumper settings

@finkmac its been some time so I forgot where I had actually seen it but someone on a different forum somewhere had a silly signature that said "want to hide something? *surprised smiley* put it in plain sight! *cowboy yeehawing smiley*" (the two faces only made it a bit more funny to look at...

What Drawing Tablet + Scanner for a Quadra 950?

@Zhinü don't mind my slight long of a helpful answer for you: yeah if there is a wired lid on a scanner its generally most likely for to do negatives/slides with (among a few rare other things the active backlit is useful for) .. at least naturally you can simply unplug the lid itself whenever...

short thread re ibook g4 battery condition

considering that the two 1.33ghz models were discounted sales-wise in 2005 or 2006, I had never ever thought to check that specific part of the system profiler last year and only finally did look at it this month while testing around the ibook itself for a bit and.. it turns out theres only 252...

What Drawing Tablet + Scanner for a Quadra 950?

@paws many of the times the bigger models gets used for when precision over a longer distance was warranted like say a long piece in cad (especially if partially copying an existing blueprint paper too) .. but to draw a cartoon head bust etc the smaller adb-powered ones were more than good...

    "portable"/"slim" 6200/5200

@noglin well the pinout is already known (as long as you're mindful of that theres two variations of it aka nubus versus pci slide-in) and theres equally some 3d prints of it around too. as for the siderails hmm well I mean technically in a custom case you don't really need these unless you...

What Drawing Tablet + Scanner for a Quadra 950?

@Zhinü just one simple thing to know about with the wacoms if you had never used them before, if you don't load any extension the tablet simply acts like a 1:1-to-the-screen basic mouse. but install [and then still boot with] the wacom extension successfully and you now can do additional things...

I need help with file management

yeah david that was basically mfs which not surprisingly aptly was short for 'macintosh file system' no? (and I'm guessing it not surprisingly didn't actually last for that long solo as hfs came out a relatively short time later. of course 'hierarchical' not surprisingly really stood for what it...

    ADB splitter?

that doesn't surprise me @waynestewart as I barely could see any use for it considering that I could in theory do a host>supraexpressmodem>wacomtablet>keyboard>auxpad>mouse chain without needing any special outside extras to make it physically fit together
  18. C

    ADB splitter?

theres no problem with splitters etc as its a passive bus in a manner speaking, beside if you looked at any smaller wacom tablets you'll note that its indeed very much a Y splitter too (just the wacom cord is hardwired into one leg of the splitter itself)

What CD-ROM Drive for Beige G3?

and @AC Rempt just in case you ever think of them i'll mention this for now.. the zip drive is basically in three generations with variations in each 100mb both internal (scsi or ide) and external altogether were somewhat equally common, you have to be a bit cautious with external ones tho due...

What CD-ROM Drive for Beige G3?

sorry @croissantking good thing this wasn't a pm conversation, I guess I had a bit of brainfart at night after a tiring day regarding the 'hardwired' ribbon-to-slotconnector setup the performas had. and either way interesting regarding the mid-life swap with re the beige g3 zips
