What did I do to my Apple IIGS? Pink and green boxes on boot

Hey, sorry, I should have specified. Yes, this happens with no card installed. I pulled the SCSI card when I removed the RAM. I cannot get to the control panel via Ctrl + Open Apple + Escape.

What did I do to my Apple IIGS? Pink and green boxes on boot

I always get so very excited about my latest acquisition, such as my recently acquired Apple IIGS. It was working great, although it only had 768k of RAM and I was booting it off of a Floppy Emu. I thought "hey it'd be cool to get a RAM expansion and a SCSI card" so I bought one of each - a...

What FPS do you get in Quake on your machine?

In the video I linked I said I thought it might be the Rage 128 but the more I think about it the more I blame RAM bandwidth. I have a B&W G3, a 6500, and a Sawtooth G4 that also all run at 400MHz and it’s something I plan to test in the next video whenever I get time.

What FPS do you get in Quake on your machine?

I did a lot of Quake benchmarks on six different CPUs in my PM7600. Rage 128 out of a B&W G3 for video so the CPU wasn’t bottlenecked, and 256MB of memory on Mac OS 8.6. This is 640x480 in GLQuake. Lots of other testing too if anyone is curious. Edit: just saw this is the NuBus forum sorry.

    PM6500 and Upgrading to 9.2.2

I know you got the main issue solved and that’s awesome. But I’m back on the backing up drives thing. Is your SD card formatted HFS+? My setup in my 6500 is identical - IDE to SD adapter, formatted HFS+ and my Mac Studio has no problems reading the partition. It seems APM isn’t the issue but I...

how much RAM is on this IIgs card

Thank you very much, that's all very good info. That means the 512k that the system detects is correct. That PDF is super cool, as well. Thank you @Andy!

how much RAM is on this IIgs card

At VCF Midwest yesterday I picked up a really nice Apple IIgs, and aside from using a semi-emulated IIe in my LC III, this is the first Apple II to make its way home with me. So please pardon my ignorance. It has a very large memory expansion card that is half-way populated. If I'm counting...

    L2 G3 upgrades in a Power Macintosh 6500

Do you have anything less janky? I’ve been looking for something 3D printed and come up empty.

    L2 G3 upgrades in a Power Macintosh 6500

Bought a G3 upgrade from willmurray461 and it was super unstable in my PM 6500/225 when I first got it. I read this page from the 6400 zone: https://machut.net/mirrors/zone6400/L2G3_spec_comparison.html Apparently, the chip on the Sonnet upgrade faces the "wrong" way because it's facing the RAM...

    PowerMac 7600 3.3v ram

"G2" was in use in 1998: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/743188 It's also here: https://www.mackido.com/Hardware/G2.html I doubt it's been used widely, but I saw a video somewhere saying Jobs even said it. I know, I know, I should cite my sources. I'll work on that.

    Goodwill find: Mac SE

I kinda want a color classic and an 040 accelerator but they definitely have to be refurbished first.

    Goodwill find: Mac SE

Well I’m glad to hear that for sure! I’ve never owned a compact Mac before, but I’ve wanted one. Always was afraid they’d be tough to maintain. I have fond memories of them, though. My high school chorus teacher didn’t have an accompanist but he had a compact Mac of some kind hooked up to a...

    Goodwill find: Mac SE

My local Goodwill has this today. There was a tag that said it powered on but didn’t boot. Figured I’d give it a go. Came with System 6.0.1 disks but either the drive doesn’t read anything or they’re damaged. Plugged in my ZuluSCSI with the Mac Pack on an SD card and it fired right into...

Am I too dumb to burn a pre-OSX CD?

I am with you in that I wasn't successful burning 8.5 or 8.6 ISOs that would actually boot the machine. But I think it's actually the image, because 8.1 and 9.1 will boot from a ZuluSCSI on my PM 6500/225, but 8.5 and 8.6 will not. So it's not just the CDs I burn, it's the images themselves. I...

    LC III FPU?

The 68882 from Eric, along with a full-fat 68040 33 MHz to stuff into my Quadra 605, arrived while I was out of town. Finally got them installed (removing the LC 040 from the 605 was nerve wracking!) and both seem to be working flawlessly. I'll be getting my chips from Eric from here on out.

    PowerMac 7600 3.3v ram

I learned this the hard way in my first retro Mac purchase, a Power Macintosh 7300 with a G3 400 upgrade card. It came with 64 MB of memory and I stupidly bought a bunch of uber-cheap PC100 168-pin DIMMs. That was back when the price of pre-G3 systems was through the floor in like 2007-08. While...

    LC III FPU?

The email alert was a good reminder to follow up - I've got one from Eric on the way. Thanks everyone!

    LC III FPU?

That's super helpful, thanks! I just sent him a message about a 25 MHz one, since his listing says to message before ordering.

    LC III FPU?

I'm not in a big hurry. I'd be happy to wait until you're back since I know I'd be getting what I'm hoping for and not taking a shot on eBay.

    LC III FPU?

Hey thanks for the reply! I had no idea there were fakes out there, so I guess I need to be careful. Mine is a stock LC III, so 25 MHz, and I have no ambitions to overclock it. So hopefully I'll be able to make one work. When I googled for "legit 68882" the first Google result that came up...
