Each System 6 version, complete with the mathematically questionable double decimal point, is similar to what we get today when we update our systems. Every upgrade adds support for something new, fixes a bug, or a combination of the two.
This is going completely off memory, but...
6.0.0...
The CC, 500 series, and an unreleased intermediate model were actually all designed at the same time (AppleDesign mentions this and is my source here). The intermediate model is a little hard to describe but looks like a short, somewhat compressed 500 series. There's a pic in AppleDesign.
I get...
Something I'm curious about with the old board: do they run System Software earlier than 6.0.6?
I know the finalization date of 6.0.6 was 09/04/1990. (Source: I have a full copy of 6.0.6 from a Classic that shipped with both 6.0.6 and 6.0.7). The Classic ROM disk used 6.0.3 and has an unusual...
If I'm observing a Mac Classic II without opening it up, is there any real difference between a computer showing four bars vs. a checkerboard? Obviously, both will lead to capacitor replacement, but is there anything else to be concerned about if bars are there instead of a checkerboard?
It seems there are many more of these made in early 1991 than previously realized. Apple lists the discontinuation date of the SE as October 15, 1990, but there seem to be a large number of them made in the first few weeks of 1991.
What I'm trying to figure out is when the last one rolled off...
See the title. I'm finding these are failing rapidly, and I can smell the failing caps when the IW is turned on, but I can't seem to find the origin of these on the network cards. I'm pretty sure it's just the card since the printer works fine with the card disabled, yet it goes on and off the...
I told myself I wouldn't get any more. I said I'd swear off buying them for the rest of the year after picking up a IIc from a guy from my old church. I said there was no way I'd want to add another piece to the lab even if we got more students.
Well, all that talk failed. I just bought another...
Not new, but a 1-owner Mac. I found it by searching Craigslists near and far, convinced the seller to have it professionally packed (it came from Maine to Pennsylvania), and had it packed as a box-in-box.
I usually don’t post conquest pictures, but this one was too good not to share. Got it for just $200 plus shipping. It will need caps but otherwise looks good!!
This is something I haven't seen before and definitely will try--I have a spare PSU sitting around and will pop it in there sometime!
Now I have a re-capped Classic doing the same thing...could it be something similar, maybe with the analog?
They used them even later than that...I have an iMac G4 I really need to open up sometime; it's been in storage for a few years and I know it's only on its second battery...
After years of wanting one, I finally snagged a Color StyleWriter 4100 (the HP rebadge) on eBay in excellent condition. I have some experience with late 90s HP printers on Windows, all of which has been positive, so I'm curious, what have people generally thought of the 4100/4500 on the Mac? How...
I'm having some issues with AppleTalk on a few machines.
Both are re-capped, so we can set that issue aside right now.
The first is an LC. This one has never worked on a network, even with its original board. (I'm not sure if the original board was the one I got re-capped or if I put another...
