    The Manhole

Awesome score there! I always thought Cyan's best titles were the three earliest ones: The Manhole, Cosmic Osmo, and Spelunx. (I always wished they would have made more rooms for Spelunx and I have long thought about trying to program one, but alas, my art skills are nowhere near my HyperCard...

Announcing the Tetris Max High Score Contest, October 14

@bigmessowires since we're talking a lot about the reasons we love Tetris Max, I have to ask...how did you and Peter Wagner get acquainted? The music in the game is great and there are actually quite a few remixes of the song on YouTube, believe it or not.

Announcing the Tetris Max High Score Contest, October 14

The Cook Tetris sounds like a really awful adaptation of the game, but there is one far worse than that called Tetricycle...OK, who remembers the big reason that one was so bad?!?

Announcing the Tetris Max High Score Contest, October 14

Good thing I bought that LC 575 in June and convinced myself to hold on to it.

Reassembled Mac SE case doesn't *quite* fit...

    Do you have any photos?

    LC 575 refurb options?

I'd say the logic board recap is your first step. If you're not good after that, recap the AB. I've heard they fail sometimes on the 5xx, but I've mostly heard about issues with the AB on the somewhat related Color Classic.

LC 475 prone to cap leakage as other LCs

The iMac G5 was notorious for bad capacitors too.

Mac Plus CRT in an SE ?

They should swap just fine. I've done it many times.

Retail Spots for Mac Plus Items?

Herb is actually a good guy. I met him at VCF one year. You may want to look into Apple Rescue of Denver. They sometimes have small parts.

    IIsi vs se/30

I'd keep both if I were you. They're similarly powered but two completely different machines. Interestingly, they occupied sort of the same place in the market in 1991: mid-level computers that were between the budget line (LC and Classic) and power user line (IIci and IIfx). However, one thing...

    Macintosh II Floppy Drive Stickers

I once saw this on an SE that had one drive replaced with a 1.4MB and the other 800K drive retained.

Centris 610 is a Candidate for "Dirtiest 68k Mac"

At least the Centris isn't also 32-bit dirty on top of that!!

    USB Superdrive (floppy drive)?

In this era, a common solution was to get a Mac Classic (often free in school surplus at the time) and use it to convert the disks. This worked both for iMac/iBook users who wanted to use old 800K disks or for people who used those newer computers to try to get shareware from the web to a Plus...

    ImageWriter II Issue

The belt seems fine, but I think you're on to something with the caps... After I packed up my lab to transport it, I stopped for a milkshake. When I got back into my car, I was greeted with the unmistakable smell of bad caps. All of the Macs I took with me have been re-capped. It's the newer...

    ImageWriter II Issue

One of our ImageWriters is down…if I plug it in and turn it on, this is what happens: No movement, no select light, no response from any buttons. It had made a hard stop against the left side while warming up after loading paper. Any ideas? I already bought another one if this isn’t a decent...

Dirty Macs - post your pics of the filthy ones

While it cleaned up nicely, this one was really dirty when I got it. To top it off, it also happens to be 32-bit dirty...

    Shattered LCs? Morbid curiosity.

From my experience, the tabs on the back are among the worst offenders. I've also seen buttons for screen and volume controls pop out of their sockets (admittedly my experience was on a 5200, but the same applies to the 500 series since they used the same buttons). Whatever you do, NEVER ship...

Can any one identify what this might be?

I saw that one too. I'm also guessing parallel printer (I know there were external adapters for people who wanted to connect parallel printers so I'm sure they also made PDS and NuBus cards). Who wants to buy it for the team?

Personal LaserWriter NT/NTR: What to Watch For?

I'm considering buying a Personal LaserWriter NT or NTR for my computer lab. What, if any, issues should I be aware of that would plague these printers in 2023? I know I can still source toner for these (HP 75A) so I'm not too concerned there, but what about things like boards, capacitors...

    Cap explosion on SE/30–help!

I once had a student joke about getting the quadratic formula tattooed on the wrist to avoid memorizing it. (No, it didn't happen, thankfully...my students have all memorized it through practice!)
