@jajan547 Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. I've been away from forums for a while.
Really TL:DR summary: Look for a module with four chips on board. The chips are labeled 341S0169, 341S0170, 341S0171, 341S0172. That will work, even if it is a PowerComputing Corp. (PCC) module...
Well, everyone who had a PEx without a ROM module and requested a ROM module now has a ROM module. I'm not sure what other progress you might be asking about.
Rev. A, B or C? If you get a Rev. A ROM, then slave drives will not be supported on the built-in IDE busses.
I can build you a ROM module with the C but there are a couple of issues.
The lessor issue is that I'm in the USA so shipping is a bear unless we can get @mg.man to travel again...
[]NITPICK] That's not really true and has caused no end of confusion. SCSI 1 and SCSI 2 are revisions of the SCSI standard, although it's arguable that SCSI I never existed or was never codified.
Unenhanced SCSI 1 and SCSI 2 are both capable of 5 MB/s performance, in theory. The SCSI...
IIRC, there are four positions for the memory chips. The trick is that the chips are 16 bits wide and 16 bit wide RAM chips are fairly rare. The other fun bit is that they're in an SOJ package (SOJ-42?). So when hunting for these FPM chips, search for that. I've seen some old 168 pin...
No additional logic needed if one sticks to certain 72 pin SIMMs. Specifically, one could only use Single-Banked 72-pin SIMMs. Almost all 32 MB 72 pin SIMMs (which is a fairly common size) are 2-bank. They're actually built out of two banks of 16 MB.
If you rewired the SE/30 to use 72...
Yes, the Power Computing Corp. (PCC) version of the HPV card, which shipped in their Power 120 (also Power 80 and Power 100, although I've never seen those two and think they're mythical) had the modification shown in jt's later photos.
PCC added a PC/VGA-style HD15 connector and a switch...
Thank you for the information on NVRAM. Sounds like I was wasting my time swapping the chips, but I do enjoy soldering....
Long thread here: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/pex-rom-project.23568/
pEX was coincident in time with the PM G3. The pEX project was scrapped very close...
No onboard video on the S900. The S900 uses the $77D.28F2 ROM Revision which Apple used in the X500 and 7200 machines. Chips physically labeled 341S0169 - 341S0172.
Because the same ROM is used on the 7500/8500 there will be code in there for CHAOS/CONTROL I don't know if that could be...
@joevt I did fairly extensive (empirical) testing of the S900's behavior with various PCI cards a long time ago. I think I documented most of it in the LowEndMacs LEMlists "Supermacs". I think that's archived in Google groups.
I can remember some of the details. For one thing, it...
Thank you, Cheesestraws. It's also possible that RealTek's driver contains some flaw that prevents it from working when behind a PPB. I don't know enough about how drivers work to know if that is a possibility, though.
Do you have RealTek's driver for the 8139 cards? But it might need some kind of modification because of the bridge. IIRC, there's instructions in the 8169 driver regarding editing some parameters in the driver such as Vendor ID, depending on who used RealTek's chip in their product.
Umax's S900 and J700 use the same ROM as the PM7500/8500/9500, so if a patch is developed for the X500/X600 families then it should work in the S900/J700.
However, there are four different revisions of ROM that might be found in the X500/X600 family. Only 2 of those revisions are present on...
In case this might be useful... I noted this earlier in the thread, but it was long, long ago.
While Gazelle has trouble with all PCI-PCI Bridge cards, PowerSurge (X500/X600) works properly with one level of PCI-PCI Bridge.
That is, in the PowerSurge machines, the issue is when you reach a...
I'm still about 6 pages from the end of this thread, so apologies if this has been discussed in the last couple of months....
Every PCI device requires a Bus Request and a Bus Grant signal. One of the functions of a PCI-PCI Bridge is to arbitrate (accept Bus Request, Send Bus Grant) to the...
The old Viewsonic 4E, 5E (14" and 15" CRTs respectively) worked with the IICi/IIsi. These CRTs were sold back in the mid to late 90s though, so finding them....
If you meant the Umax J700, it is the same as the S900. They used the same motherboard and PS with J700 mb lacking some connectors.

It shouldn't be too difficult to pull up the old Shreve advertisements in the back of the Mac magazines. The magazines being available on line now days...
Such ads were usually in the back.
This could be an Apple proto-type as others surmise, however you should also be aware that Shreve Systems sold hundreds (thousands?) of such systems.
Apparently, they had a giant stack of old IIcx and C/Q 650 logic boards and they offered a graft for many years.
I may be misremembering a...
