A/UX 3.x install on IIfx hangs

I had success installing A/UX 3.1.1 on my IIfx using an internal BlueSCSI v2 and an external CD 300 drive. I haven't tried with a virtual CD from the BlueSCSI. If you are using an external BlueSCSI, make sure that your internal SCSI chain is terminated. You could just attach an internal...

    Skipping the Startup Memory Test

I have tested this on my 9500 and it has been working perfectly so far! Thank you so much @jmacz ! This 9500 has 1.5 GB of RAM and took forever to boot on 7.6.1. It was so long, I ended up using MacOS 9 instead. I am so happy to be back on System 7, which flies on that machine! @jmacz do you...

What to do with a Powermac 9600/200MP

The 9600 doesn't have the A/V ports but it has 6 PCI connectors and with a card like a Pinnacle DC30, you could make your Mac a great machine for digitizing old VCR or analog camcorder tapes. I use my 9500 with such a card for that purpose and it works pretty well. Upgrading it with a G3 or G4...

    Durosity’s conquests and collection

In my town (in France), one can take whatever they want so there is always someone going there just to see if there is something to take. I don't go there often and there can be a few random PCs but I have never seen any Mac. Maybe they are being taken straight away :)

    Making a 1-bit game engine

That's awesome @Mu0n ! When looking at your code, I realize that I should rethink my syntax. I am used to naming my function and variables in lower_case and instead, I should go for the camelCase syntax that is used in the entire Toolbox. That will look a lot cleaner.

    Making a 1-bit game engine

I am mainly focusing on the graphics at the moment (I still have my mind in optimizing the frame rate) but sound is part of the plan. This project from @Mu0n seems quite advanced in term of sound. We may be able to merge efforts at some point.

    Making a 1-bit game engine

I am making a game engine for our old B&W Macs. I have posted the full story at Tinker different as it was my main source of inspiration for coding, but I thought I would post about it here too. You can find the source code at https://gitlab.com/ftech31/classicsprite It is still a work in...

    I got a Power PC 8600/200

The 8600 is also a great machine for capturing and even editing old analog videos. It has A/V connectors in the back and if you attach a VCR or camcorder to it, you have a great machine for digitizing your old tapes. I do this on my 9500 (with a dedicated PCI card as it doesn't have the A/V...

    Compact Mac Transcoded Video Idea

Reviving this thread as I am discovering MacFlim. What an incredible piece of software! Well done @fstark! You rock! If there was a possibility to encode videos on the fly, along with something like a BlueSCSI (Raspberry Pi version) that would connect to the Internet, download and encode the...

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

Thank you very much for the tips @eharmon ! I will keep testing. It's joy using that computer. So much I can do with that machine! I am a graphics designer and I sometimes still do some work on my PM 9500. This makes me want to try a few things on the LC 475 as well. Especially animations with...

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

Actually, @eharmon , it is not a HRC, it is a XC68040RC25M. Next to that it says 02E31F. Not sure how you determine if it's a E or a D mask from that? So far it has been running pretty stable at 40MHz. I had a single crash when it was @33MHz but I am not sure if it was the software that didn't...

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

@eharmon, my chip number is XC6840HRC25M so I guess the mask is either 2E31F or OE31F. Not sure what the difference is when comparing both lines.

Overclock LC475/P475/Q605 without soldering or spicy-o-clock

I just discovered this post and decided to give it a try on my LC 475. It was a success so far! I just moved the resistor to R95 (didn't replace the MC88920 chip) and with a full 25MHz 68040, it was pretty stable at 40MHz. I joined my home network, browsed the Internet, downloaded, decompressed...

9500 With SATA card sound problem

I just didn't use the G4 card for 11 years, which let me attach the SATA card on the bottom PCI slots, and recently, I decided that it was a shame having it in its box and gave it another try. This time, I read the documentation and installed it correctly. :) There was also a very interesting...

9500 With SATA card sound problem

Coming back to that topic as I gave another go to the G4 card in combination with the SATA card (both Sonnet) on the 9500. I realized after reading the documentation (who would do that? :) ) that the sudden crashes came from the fact that the HD drivers were too old. I used the ones from System...

Help with cleaning SE/30 board after recap

I cleaned the board another time with more soap and spending more time with the toothbrush, going into each corner and insisting in the ares of the capacitors. Dried it once with compressed air (not too powerful) and I then put it back into IPA for an hour, dried it again over night...

Help with cleaning SE/30 board after recap

I checked continuity between the SCSI and SWIM chips because I read in this forum that it can be a reason for hang on grey screen. I followed this schematics. SCSI pin 26 and SWIM pin 9 (D2) give me no continuity. I can retrieve the pins in the back of the board, which give me continuity this...

Help with cleaning SE/30 board after recap

@falen6 I reseated the video ROM. It was not off at all, the lens distortion gave that impression. Regarding cleaning, I did use a toothbrush and the board looks cleaner in real than it is in the picture. The image came out a bit washed out. I will redo a cleaning anyway. That won't hurt...

Help with cleaning SE/30 board after recap

Thank you for the tips @chiptripper . I cleaned the board with water first (left it for one hour), then dried the board with not too heavy compress air, then put it into IPA for another hour and finally let it fully dry during the night so I think that the board was clean. Unfortunately I still...
