Macintosh IIcx + PowerCD 600e = are they compatible?

I was always just happy to have the 600e work without needing a driver for it, so I never paid any attention to the speed (my first CD drive was an NEC back in the day and required one). How would I check the speed - would one of the hardware tests verify that?

Is this too much $ and work for a noob.

It sure looks like a crack down the front of the center to fix - not fun for a beginner and staring at that all the time would not be for me. I can only see the picture someone posted here, not the backside with connectors that was posted on FB, so I don't know the condition, but it can...

The Complete Book of Macintosh Assembly language Programming Vol I

I'm (finally) taking some time off from work this week and the plan is to build a version of the Book shooter MK5 and make pdfs of a couple books. Look for an update later this week. The Vol I is 588 pages, including the covers, other book info, etc.

The Complete Book of Macintosh Assembly language Programming Vol I

I've been looking for a copy of Vol I ever since I found a copy of the Vol II, pdf online. They occasionally come up, but for more money than I'm willing to pay. The other day, one came up in my eBay search results from Thriftbooks for $18 shipped and I bought it a few mins later. The book is...

Mac SE no bong, no display. not getting anywhere with troubleshooting

Keep following up on the other paths, but also check the connection to the CRT - there could be multiple issues. Make sure the nipple on the back of the CRT has not broken and while you are there, when powered on, with the rear bucket off, you should see a faint glow at the back of the CRT...

Is it necessary to recap the PSU (Sony)?

Good plan - I have a few SE/30s and out of those, four of them had Sony PSUs. One is still in great shape with good voltages and no issues. Of the others, two had caps that leaked horribly and one seemed fine, but after testing all three had to be recapped, along with washing their boards...

Novel method for restoring original coloration of Compact Mac cases

In my experience (with retrobriting), the opposite has been true. Also, I am experimenting with UV protectant recommended by another member here to see if the re-yellowing of a retrobrited piece can be delayed or prevented. Since the re-yellowing takes years when the retrobriting is performed...

    ”Early” 128k Macintosh Values?

I wasn't going to comment on this one, but yes there is something inherently perfect about the original Mac (in spite of its shortcomings) and they do command a premium for an original, un-upgraded one, because more people want one than there are available examples. Some folks might luck into...
