Speaking of dating ImageWriter IIs, I wonder if anyone could help me figure out about how old this one on Craigslist is? I'm trying to find one of the later models but this one doesn't have a date on the model label...
Well, post cleaning I still can't successfully initialize a disk with either drive, but the G3's floppy drive at least stopped thinking every disk was 800k. Both had some dust buildup that I cleared out and I cleaned the heads too but I still can't write a disk...
1.44MB disks. One box were even Mac formatted. But all of them failed to initialize, some with "cannot initialize because the disk is defective!" errors but most just a generic "the disk cannot be initialized" error.
I needed to make floppy disks for one of my 68k Macs so I decided to try using my 9600 to do it. However, despite using 6 disks from 3 different brands, I wasn't able to initialize a disk successfully.
I'm hoping it's just dirty. If it is, how do I disassemble it to clean it?
I don't see much reason to buy an IceBook when you can get a G4, unless the IceBook is just incredibly cheap or local. I went G4 myself and once I replaced the hard drive I haven't had any problems, though the battery life is starting to tank hard.
Hmm, that's very strange. I installed 10.4 via a 4CD set on mine just fine and installed 10.4.6 on an iBook G4 that demanded 10.4.2 or above from the 10.4.6 DMG.
Is a 7,3 a PCI-X or PCIe G5? Any PCI-X G5 can use Tiger 10.4.0 install disks but a PCIe might require 10.4.2 or higher. In that case, there's a DMG of 10.4.6 out there you can use for installing Tiger.
Took almost a month to get back to this but sure enough, I have basically no voltage on the +5, -12, and +12 lines, literally less than a volt. Bad power supply?
Yeah, I guess the problem all along was the CD-ROM drive. Which is a shame because that CD-ROM drive was a replacement for another SCSI CD-ROM drive that was also bad.
This Sony ATA drive is loud as hell but it works every single time and that's all I need.
