    PowerBook 1400 Hinge Fix Shim

Hey @AEChadwick thanks so much for this! Where do you usually print things like this? I tried JLCPCB but they can't do it since they require a certain thickness which is greater than some parts in your file

PowerBook G4 1.33ghz wont turn on without PMU reset

Try leaving it plugged in (powered) after shutting it down, and try turn it on again. I think the G4s can get into a weird state if the power level is too low and they rely somewhat on a small amount of power draw from the main battery when they're off. I may be wrong but I've encountered this...

A reasonably happy Macintosh SE (with minor issues)

Thanks for the help that's really helpful @rjkucia, @cheesestraws, @Berenod and @mdeverhart. @Berenod I didn't realise capacitance and ESR could start changing, I'll stop using it for now and will get some replacements for the analog board also. @mdeverhart I'll see if I can treat the...

A reasonably happy Macintosh SE (with minor issues)

After years of neglect I finally pulled my SE FD/HD out of the closet, opened it up and gave it a brief clean. It looks surprisingly good after a thorough air dusting, and I can't see evidence of the capacitors leaking yet. I'm going to re-cap it and will give it a good alcohol clean when I do...

    SE Take apart question

I noticed that this ground(?) wire is almost completely loose after disassembling my SE. Can I touch/tighten this without having to discharge the CRT? It connects to the CRT neck board.

    PB 1400 no connection

The Aironet is great but it won't work, the drivers don't support pre-G3 systems. I have a guide I wrote somewhere about setting up WiFi for the 1400 but don't have it handy at the moment. Here are some things I remember: Try adding '0x' at the beginning of the wifi password (if you get to that...

PowerBook 1400 LCD replaced with New Old Slightly Different Stock

From memory the display cable connects at a different location under the bezel. I tried years ago to put an LCD from a 1400c into a 1400cs but it wouldn't work because of the connector position. I don't think I had a 1400c at the time so maybe if I had the longer display cable it would have worked.

    imac g4 buzzing sound

I have the same thing and I'm 99% sure its some component resonating. I noticed that it's only affecting my G4 which has PSU issues, the other one is fine. So maybe that would be the first place to look. My symptoms are exactly the same as yours, it makes the most noise during HD/SSD access. My...

PC Compatibility Card in G4 MDD

I also tried using a different VGA adapter and went through a bunch of dip switch settings as mentioned here, but it didn't make any difference.

PC Compatibility Card in G4 MDD

Having a monitor connected before it boots doesn't seem to make much difference unfortunately. I've just tried with two monitors, and have gone through each monitor setting within the control panel and got the same results (except for the unsupported resolutions e.g. portrait). If I choose auto...

PC Compatibility Card in G4 MDD

After ordering parts to make a cable I managed to get both variations of the cable for $15! I can't get the loopback function working since I need a VGA (male) to DB15 (female) adapter. After booting the PC I unplugged the monitor cable from my video card, and with an adapter connected it to the...

PowerBook 1400 Internal Farallon Ethernet Drivers

@theducks I'm glad you found the right drivers for your card! @jeremywork thanks for those threads, I'll do some more digging soon. I've just noticed my 1400 is starting to show signs of the hinge cracking issue so I need to address that before I use it anymore. It must be a driver issue if...

PC Compatibility Card in G4 MDD

That's interesting, I didn't actually know these variations existed until I found this card. Thanks for the info @jessenator! I'll have to keep an eye out for a 166 card, they sound like a bit of an upgrade.

PC Compatibility Card in G4 MDD

Thanks I thought so too, I can't believe nobody else bid on it! Oh nice thanks that's good to know, I'll have to see if I can source the VRAM chips from somewhere. That's very interesting!! Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction, I've bought the parts and will attempt to...

PC Compatibility Card in G4 MDD

I managed to get a PC Compatibility card (PCI) for $20 (unsure of the exact details of it, it's either 100Mhz or 160Mhz). I installed it in my MDD because I no longer have any early PPC machines with PCI and it mostly works. The PC card boots and runs, can switch to and from the system and the...

PowerBook 1400 Internal Farallon Ethernet Drivers

@theducks Oh really that's interesting! No I haven't and I've tried it in multiple 1400 machines with different sets of drivers. Either I've lost some special drivers I originally had that were specifically for this card or something has gone wrong with the card. If you get yours working again...
