Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Oh.. it looks like that's the display that would go with the Full Page cards for the SE and SE/30 (and I imagine other Macs from around that time too). Is there any markings on the display to indicate when it was manufactured as I suspect it's probably from the late 80s rather than your PCI...
Is it just as simple as swapping the chips? I always wondered if there was any other modifications required or updated roms.
It’s been overwhelming for years.. but it’s been cathartic getting it all sorted out. I’m nowhere near done yet, but I’ve at least been able to get everything where it...
I can’t guarantee anything, but I think I have a spare rev 2 board. I’m currently in the process of finally getting my garage/workshop cleared out (I can now actually see the floor!!!) and I have a huge pile of motherboards I need to sort through. If you’re interested send me a PM in a week or...
My first printer was a StyleWriter II. I still vividly remember the sound it made doing the test print (which as I recall they used as the sound effect of a fax machine in Lost In Translation)
Ah but cheap dongles didn’t exist back then, plus not ideal for a computer you’re moving around with you.. the USB port would likely end up getting damaged. Thing is.. back when the airport system first appeared the need for the PC Card slot was already starting to become limited. I had a...
I’d agree about Byrd’s reflow suggestion, but also check the caps used themselves.. I’ve found the CC to be very twitchy with non low ESR caps, so if they’re just run of the mill caps it may cause odd behaviour.
I finally got a copy of MacFormat issue 1, all for the low low price of £1.43! Been looking for a copy of this for years and it was always a ridiculous price!
Oooh now this is useful info. I currently have 2 faulty LWIIs (both single red light after powering up which I seem to recall is a resistor issue) but I imagine after I get it working I’m going to have other issues like this.
I’m curious as to if there’s a particularly good guide for removing one that anyone can recommend? It’s not something I’ve been terribly good at.. I’ve just tried removing one from a knackered board as a test run and.. I’ve not improved 😅
Don't suppose anyone happens to have a driver for this NuBus ethernet card?
I've had a search around for anything relating to its markings like SSI Nubus A1 and SSI NB128 but without much luck, and I've tried some other drivers just to see if they happened to work, but to no avail!
Impressive! I have wanted to try making a 13w3 cable.. I have 3 portrait displays but only 2 cables.. it would be cool to make a 3rd cable and have all 3 hooked up to my Mac II.
Back in the day when these were dropping like flies, I swear I could have dismantled and rebuilt one of those iBooks blindfolded. Those army guys doing it with their rifles woulda been nothing compared to how fast I was at it.
I’d be willing to give reflowing the chip a go, but...
Do you get any video? Recapping is a good place to start, the caps on mine were starting to leak when I did it last year. Have you tried to run it without the PC Card in place?
As for the board, it only works with certain revisions of the 630 board.. it needs to be the model with two SIMM...
