Did the Voodoo3 work under OSX? I had one in my G3 266 (also upgraded to 292Mhz on a 83mhz bus) and I'm fairly certain OSX didn't even recognise it. Then again that was maybe OSX 10.0.0
Not a new conquest, in fact I’ve had it since 1999 when a friend from the US it to me! The website is of course long since gone!
Amazingly it still fits!
Awesome! So glad you finally got the chip after all the setbacks we had.. I’m excited to see if it actually bears fruit as if it does I will wanna try it on my AIO G3s logic board (which has a G4 400mhz CPU in it)
I'm not aware of any changes to the motherboard itself, but I think there was a few different ROM revisions during its production run... possibly that's what it's referring to?
I had a search around but couldn't find anything definitive.. does anyone know if a 3400 Lithium Ion battery will work in a PowerBook 5300? I happen to have 2 working 3400 batteries which both work in my 3400, but neither are recognised by my 5300. Now the 5300 did have a leaky battery in it...
I'm gonna make an educated guess that it's something in the SWIM controller as that's the only thing on the schematic that I can see that connects to both of them... either that or one of the voltage rails has gone perhaps? Have you probed it with a multimeter?
Am I right in remembering you also need a working battery in the Duo for the clock battery to work correctly? As in it won’t charge the clock battery if the main battery doesn’t register anymore?
Yep, it’s connected to my LocalTalk network which in turn is connected to a Daynaport Ethernet to LocalTalk bridge which in turn is connected to an airport extreme’s gigabit Ethernet port, and the Pi 4 is connected to one of the other ports.. AppleTalk traffic works fine over it so I imagine it...
Interesting! I’ll keep an eye on that, as I only have a colour ribbon for my LQ (I picked up a box of 6 of them individually sealed BNIB and it seems to work perfectly) .. looking at it I’m guessing it needs to be directly connected to the Pi Rather than via the LocalTalk option?
I’m curious.. I know this can be used to print from old Macs to new printers… but is there any functionality to print from new Macs to old printers? I have a ImageWriter LQ with the LocalTalk card and it would be pretty funky if I could print to it from my MacBook or iPhone!
Might be worth running a cd cleaner through it in case it’s just a dirty lens? It’s probably not that.. but I don’t see the harm in trying.. especially as opening those machines up is likely to result in a big pile of crumbling plastics
