    Amiga: the fastest 68k Mac

I honestly don't get why the Amiga crowd gets so smug and defensive (or, as @Daniël so aptly put it, difficult). What makes the Amiga so much better? Given relatively equal amounts of incompetence and mismanagement at both Commodore and Apple, the Amiga died out and the Mac didn't. Doesn't...

Replacement power adaptor for Apple Studio Display (Graphite) (Rev. C)

I have a Rev. A I think (is that the one with the bondi-colored plastics that look similar to the Rev. A and B iMac?), and while it worked last time I tried it, it needed a new backlight (it was bright pink, a telltale sign of impending failure). Now it probably needs new caps too. *sigh*...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

Beats me. I'm sure there's lots of useful stuff that can go in those slots, but for the average user, being able to upgrade the GPU is a helpful feature. Non-upgradeable RAM is a problem too. Why have such a large, fancy, expensive machine if you can't upgrade anything? At least the SSD...

And who says this stuff is obsolete! What is "cantbearseds"? Do I want to know? c

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I was just looking up the specs on the 2013 Mac Pro, and I just noticed that apparently there's an Apple Silicon model now. How did I miss that? Goes to show how uninteresting Apple has become. They release a new system and nobody seems to care. c

What does $50 buy you these days? A Mac LC, if you know where to look!! :)

Yeah, I sometimes feel sad that I missed out on those early days of the hobby. As I mentioned, I did catch the tail end of it, and I found some pretty decent stuff. Had I known what to look for (I was only just then discovering that many of these machines even existed), I probably could've...

What does $50 buy you these days? A Mac LC, if you know where to look!! :)

I got into the hobby a bit late (2005 or so). It seems like, from what I've been reading here for years now, that the golden age of vintage Mac collecting was back in the late 90s and early 2000s (say, 1997-2003), when most 68ks were considered worthless junk and early PowerMacs, which were...

What does $50 buy you these days? A Mac LC, if you know where to look!! :)

Sometime in the past year I found a Power Mac 8500 for $35, which seemed like a decent deal at the time. Other than that, I haven't really been in the market, so I haven't been looking around much. I wasn't even looking for the 8500; I happened upon it by chance while looking for something...

    Durosity’s conquests and collection

That video still looks strangely familiar, yet it isn't. What TV show/movie is it from? It's definitely from the 60s or 70s (or maaaaybe early 80s), but beyond that, I'm drawing only blanks. c

Classic, LCIII, Plus, SI for for free

Looks like the RIFA cap blew. When they do blow, they make a big, stinky mess, but they don't generally cause any major damage from what I've read (I guess I've been lucky, for I've yet to have one blow in any of my machines, so I actually don't have any first-hand experience so far). I've...

What does $50 buy you these days? A Mac LC, if you know where to look!! :)

Until you factor in sales tax, after which you can get somewhere between 80 - 90 tacos, depending on where in the state you buy them. c

    A trash can.... Mac :)

It's possible the bracket the fan attaches to got bumped and bent in transit. If you paid a significant amount, though (and it sounds like you have), it's probably better to wait and see what the seller wants to do, especially if it has a warranty If you muck around with the fan and fix the...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

Gosh, I remember when these were new... 11 years ago! I've been tempted to get one off and on ever since, but never can justify it because what I have (such as it is) works well enough, the cost is high and there's no expand-ability without an expensive outboard PCIe box. Maybe I'd reconsider...

    The "820-0961-A" mystery G3 3.3V FlashRom

This is interesting! So, is this newly discovered ROM effectively for an as yet unknown Rev. D Beige G3? Based on the latest info posted here, it would seem to be little more than a re-versioning of the Rev. C ROM. Has anyone yet figured out if there are any other differences? c

    FireWire interfaced NIC/Driver development possibilities?

I see. Oh, well. Maybe in time something like ChatGPT could do it, for free and much faster than even a team of people could go (it would undoubtedly still need to be fed the aforementioned lost documentation, which would somehow need to be found, and the results would need to be proofread and...

    Running miniVMac on macOS Sequoia

Can't any of this stuff be disabled system wide? I know that Gatekeeper could be more or less in older versions of MacOS. Is that still true? c
