Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh tuner board burned

We here in the US will probably be able to enjoy analog Am and FM forever. It's the content that's disappearing. Ultra conservative talk, religious preaching and ethnic programming aren't my thing, and that's like 90% of what AM is putting out nowadays. FM still has some life in it, but it's...

Issues Booting MacOS 9 on Power Mac G4 450 DP

When you installed OS 9 to the hard drive over FW, did you check that OS 9 drivers were installed on the Power Mac's drive? The Mac OS 9 installer should update the driver when you install, but maybe it didn't update correctly, causing it to get corrupted somehow? Can you use another, blank...

    USB on Mac OS 9

Unless you did something extra special, Classic Mac OS doesn't support anything other than USB 1.1. It will support USB 2.0 peripherals (as you've seen), but it will always run them at USB 1.1 speeds, even on hardware that otherwise supports higher 2.0 speeds. c

UK FA - my collection box boxed iMac G3 machines

I wish I still had my iMac boxes. They look really sharp (but large). c

    ClassicGuyPhilly's Finds

This feels very quaint now. Whereas NT was relatively locked down by the standards of the time (1997ish - 2003ish), compared to modern Windows and other modern OSes such as macOS (and especially iOS), it's wide open and access to its inner workings is about as free and clear as you can get...

    ClassicGuyPhilly's Finds

The AMD K6-2, I believe, can actually be a decent CPU, and I think was prized on its ability to overclock. The perception of "not-that-great" performance, I guess, stems from the fact that many of them were installed in low budget PCs whose performance was often mediocre. Plus Windows 98...

Wow, that evaporust really does wonders! I wanted to get some a couple years ago, but I couldn't find it anywhere. c

    VCF Swap Meet 2025 Haul

OK, no rush! I've been sitting on these parts for, I think, 10 to 15 years now (they're leftovers from when I built my nicely equipped, good condition Pismo (with working batteries!)), so another few days/weeks/months won't matter too much :) c

    VCF Swap Meet 2025 Haul

I may have a screen for that Pismo, if you'd like. I also have a bunch of other parts that I want you to want, if you want 🤪 c

    iMac G3 (Rev A -> C) G4 CPU Upgrade

In my experience, I think some of the bits of that feature might exist in the tray loader's firmware in some form, but it's mostly unimplemented, including the OPT/ALT invocation which, as you found, does nothing. Fun fact: an apparently undocumented, but mostly functional (prototype?) version...

Perhaps the 15 kHz mode is undocumented? c

Running 10.4.11 on pre-G3 macs with XPostFacto

This is interesting! I haven't seen a 10.1 desktop in quite some time now. I had forgotten how gaudy looking it was with all the pinstripes everywhere! And also how the overall GUI layout of its version of Apple System Profiler bears a strong resemblance to the Mac OS 9 version. MacOS...

For the record: Mac OS X Server 1.0 (Rhapsody) NetworkManager and HDNamer segfaults/sigbuses

Why are you using BOOTP? Isn't DHCP an option, or does Server 1.x predate that particular feature? Or do you have a specific need for it? You seem to know much more about networking than I do, so I'm sure you have your reasons.... c

    Checkmate Retro LCD Monitor

Well, "lucrative" is very relative, but suffice it to say, I don't reckon it'd amount to much. That said, as I think about it, lucrative is probably not the right word. Disappointed, perhaps? I've noticed the Mac collecting crowd seems to be more value oriented and frugal, and objectively...

    Checkmate Retro LCD Monitor

Agreed. SoG is a must for classic Macs and other related lines (NeXT), not to mention many early Mac video cards (excepting the ones that aren't hardwired for a specific monitor) so they missed out BIG TIME on a potentially lucrative market segment there. Or perhaps mid/late 90s PCs and...

    SuperMac Graphix 1.5

I thought of that too when I saw it. That desktop sure is in a hurry to get to wherever it's going! Apparently our senses of humor have a few, um... similarities? (scary thought.... 🤤) c
