Yes, that seems likely - someone on TinkerDifferent was able to find this capture on the Internet Archive from Ice Technology's website in 2001, where the iCube was listed as their only product. So, it seems these were a classic example of low-volume rebadged product sold by a small company...
Howdy folks, I recently acquired this NOS "iCube Multimedia Super Woofer Speaker System." According to the box it was produced by a Silicon-Valley-based company named Ice Technology, copyright date is 1999. Obviously this product was designed to compliment the Blueberry iMac G3s produced...
Very nice! Love to see it. yes, by the sounds of it I'd venture that this is a flyback-related issue. Best of luck, update us if you do decide to attempt a fix.
Yeah, apparently there is a modern replacement part available somewhere out there, or at least there was one at some point in the last few years as this video highlights.
The flyback issue on these monitors almost always presents as a sporadic snapping or "click" sound every ~5-10 seconds, and...
A few years ago someone did a very nice YouTube video of the flyback transformer replacement on one of these, here is the link.
If it doesn't power on (no signs of life at all? no amber/green power button LED?), that would almost make me think it's something other than the flyback but I am not...
Hi @YorkerPizza - I've replaced all of the hard drives in my fleet of six Clamshells with mSATA drives over the last year using Transcend mSATA drives inside of these mSATA-to-IDE enclosures, and have had a good experience with them. This encompasses all colors/models and all of the processor...
Thanks for sharing this. Having the list of parts available is great. I had mine done about a year ago and have been enjoying the fruits of a buzz-free TAM ever since. None of the caps anywhere seemed problematic or marginal, but also did a full recap of the entire system.
I see, thanks for the photos. Here are some photos of several of my clamshells' boards. I noticed this whiteish substance on this area when I had them apart last year, but wasn't sure exactly what it was. It wasn't blue or green in color, and wiped away easily with a finger or dry cotton...
Great, thanks. I had all six of mine opened up last year, and inspected this part. They all pretty much looked like this photo; no visible corrosion as far as I could tell. So I'm curious to see how a corroded one would manifest in this case.
This video from a few years ago provides an overview of the replacement process, and it appears the attempt was successful. There is a blog post linked in the description as well. He used an HR 46162.
All G3 B&W and G4 Graphite (Yikes/Sawtooth/Digital Audio/Gigabit Ethernet) did ship with a circular piece of foam glued over this area. In the photo above, you can see the ring of glue around the outside of the circle where there are still tiny bits of dark foam attached (behind/inside the...
Agreed, it is NOT a good idea to try and flex the CD drive cover in any way. The tiny, brittle plastic pegs that hold it inside the front panel are incredibly easy to snap off. The cover should stay attached to the front panel or be inserted/removed from the inside (backside) if that's possible.
After waiting almost 3 months for my membership here to be verified, I can finally compose a reply to this (woohoo!) -
Yes, the board in that photo had already been recapped (I took these photos during the reassembly). I had my TAM done by Thomas Andrews / AoR. He did a recap of the...
