    Quick DiimoCache question

Honestly, I’m only going to write stuff and play Prince of Persia. Maybe use Superpaint a bit. But it’d feel so damn snappy!

Radius TPD/SE up and running . . . on an LCD no less!

Is any of this useful: http://archive.retro.co.za/mirrors/68000/www.vintagemacworld.com/radiusmain.html Or am I just googling the same stuff everyone else is aware of?

Radius TPD/SE up and running . . . on an LCD no less!

This series of tweets from @pinot is interesting - he seems to have an SE with a Lapis card talking to a monitor through some sort of breakout box:   Pinot W. Ichwandardi (‪@pinot‬) 31/5/19, 11:21 am MacroMind Director 3.0 has second monitor feature. Imagine making...

    Quick DiimoCache question

Thanks Crutch. That means all I need to decide is whether I want to blow a squillion dollars or not.  How much do I really want to keep my TAM?

    Starting on the SE

That card's interesting: this says  Apple PC 5.25 Drive and Drive Cards The Apple PC  5.25 Drive, in combination with the Macintosh II PC Drive Card or the Macintosh SE-Bus PC Drive Card, enable users to exchange data between their Apple and MS-DOS formatted 5.25-inch disks. The Apple PC...

    Quick DiimoCache question

Because it's there, Trash!  The photo of Knez's box in my second post says 6.0.5 is the minimum, but then that's only under the LCIII and Performa 450 line, which can't run system 6 anyway. Hmmmm.

    Quick DiimoCache question

Also, I realised I put this in the Compact Macs channel, which made sense at the time because I want to put it in an SE/30, but it might not be the best place. Sorry.

    Quick DiimoCache question

Looking at the pics in this thread it seems anything > 6.0.5?

    Quick DiimoCache question

Hi all - does the DiimoCache 50mhz work with System 6 on a machine which would otherwise support the OS? Or does it, as indicated here, require System 7.0? Grateful for swift replies as I'm considering blowing a large bucket of money.

Thanks 68k - that minimal level of organisation is new, and there’s still not a lot of empty floor. Getting there.

Oh, and I did get the Quadra 700 up and running with 7.0.1. That HDD I put in it was haunted. Horrible example of a really crappy era of software — bloated 7.5.5, disk doubler, copy doubler, some godawful fax software that spat up error messages every time it booted, and something which refused...

Thanks Trash — it wasn't there for long! I bought a cheap IIfx motherboard "in need of repair" — it doesn't boot either, but is in far better shape than my other one. Think I'll practice my re-capping on an LCII, have a crack at my Iici and IIcx, then move to the big box machines.  In lieu of...

    PowerBook 2400c with goodies

I lusted after these so much back in the day. One came up on eBay in Australia not that long ago — was sorely tempted. Unsure what the keyboard was, but how hard can hiragana (katakana?) be to learn?

Also, I’d forgotten just how bloated things got by system 7.5. Plugged in a random hard drive with an awesome selection of fonts on it which I want to get off. No Ethernet driver installed. Fair enough - install open transport *and* classic AppleTalk, because I don’t know which will work. Disks...

    Baroni’s Collection

Argh! Thought I’d let out some of my Mac II frustration by trying something nice and new and modern. Quadra 700. All well until *fizz-ZZZZZzzzz* magic smoke coming from the power supply. It kept running long enough for me to shut it down, but kerploding power supplies not a winner. Have plugged...

Aaand...now it won’t boot again. Back to powering up, but no chime. Sigh. I guess that means removing the floppy was just a placebo. Still, I got to level 3 in Prince of Persia in the meantime.  ...and another variation: the chime starts, and doesn’t stop. Just holds the note. Slight vibrato...

Thanks Trag - I hope it’s of some interest. Tonight’s problem with the II: won’t boot with the internal floppy plugged in. Not that an 800k floppy is hugely useful, but would be nice to know they’re up and running. Have tried with a few different floppy units, which makes me think there might be...

Help with portrait / full page displays

Oooooh, I am going to read the hell out of that thread once I get home and the kids are down. Assuming I don’t just collapse.
