I might be speeding headfirst into "dumb question territory" here but whatever: Does anyone know if the Newton Keyboard requires a driver or extension to work with a Newton 2100? My keyboard 'works' but neither Shift key actually shifts - I have to use the Caps Lock key instead, which is a pain...
I'm in the East Bay (Alameda) and have a bunch of old Mac gear, and depending on how urgent your project is, I might be able to help give it a try later this summer or fall. With that said, I feel like it would be good to share some honest thoughts to set realistic expectations:
Many vintage...
Hi again everyone!
Thanks for the thoughts, suggestions and feedback, I really appreciate it!
I went ahead and ordered an Enhancement Kit from ReactiveMicro. I like that it's just a matter of swapping three chips - I'll definitely keep the original CPU and ROM's with this machine, and if I...
I've been hard at work restoring a nice early "Revision A" Apple IIe - it's been a fantastic learning experience! I've been into the RetroComputing hobby since the early 1990's, but until now I'd never really dabbled in soldering, capacitor replacement, etc., so it's been a blast.
With the...
Yeah, that's a super valid thought. I'm thinking hard to my first post-recap test, and I'm now realizing that I may have missed a super important clue: the first time I tested the drive after recapping, the Apple IIe didn't power on - it was acting dead. I thought I'd just failed to seat the...
Hi all!
I'm deep into a repair + restoration project on an Apple IIe, and while I'm making great progress, I've run into a problem:
I just recapped the Disk II drive, lubricated all the moving parts, etc. However, now when I power up the Apple IIe with a ‘known good’ boot disk in the drive...
Update: I think I jumped the gun (kinda) with this question! When I was pulling the keys off the switches, as you can see in the pics I linked above, some of the switches did come apart, with lots of little orphaned bits of broken plastic.
HOWEVER!
I took some time to really clean the keyboard...
As seen in this album, I'm restoring and repairing this beautiful Apple IIe computer. It's gone well so far, but the keyboard is in rough shape, with mis-matched key-switches and several broken switches too. There were apparently a pretty wide range of switches used in Apple IIe systems, and I'm...
Based on my experience working with Apple from 2004 through 2011, I can confirm that different Apple Stores (and retail partners) definitely have different "vibes" - some are more welcoming, some are more scattered / stressed, etc. That said, I can attest that bringing something vintage/cool in...
I'm somehow only just now learning about this project, but I'm blown away.
@cheesestraws - if you're still making a list of folks who'd like to purchase these, please put me onto it!
:-)

UPDATE: Someone in the NeXT group over on Facebook pointed me here: https://ftp.nice.ch/pub/next/developer/languages/logo/
Fingers crossed that it's functional!

As the title mentions, I've been poking around in various NeXT software repositories online, but can't find a clear answer to this question: does anyone know if there was a version of the "LOGO" programming language / environment for NeXTSTEP / OPENSTEP? I can't find anything definitively saying...
I wrote a longer account of this on my website (you can read it here if you're curious), but the short version: after posting here (and on Facebook + Twitter for some ID help) yesterday my family took a ~2-hour drive and bought this Apple II computer, which was built in 1980. Since we were going...
Soooo… here’s an update: the machine is mine now, it’s very interesting (more than meets the eye!) and we stopped by the original Apple HQ on Bandley Drive + the new Apple Park Visitor Center on our way home. All-in-all a successful RetroComputing adventure!
Hi all!
I have an opportunity in a couple hours to buy a (supposed) Apple II - not an Apple II+ or IIe, but an original Apple II. Other than the badge on the case lid, what are some of the visual clues I should look for to help verify that it's a real non-upgraded original II? The circumstances...
This is a great story, thanks for sharing! I've bought plenty of cool stuff on eBay over the years, but there are so many alternatives globally - it's good to see a success story a bit off the usual (US-centric) beaten path. Congrats!

So about a week ago, I spotted a post in the San Francisco Bay Area Craigslist, advertising a Mac SE for only $25! The pics in the listing weren't great - it was kinda hard to get a sense of the condition of the machine, but one pic showing the nametag on the back of the machine was cropped in...
Oh man, this is a great story - congrats!
I know it's not on most "All Time Greatest Macs" lists, but I have such a personal affection for the Performa 6400/180. My closest childhood friend's parents bought one when we were in 6th grade together, and sleepover nights at his place became...
