I'd just recommend rebuilding a 5300 battery instead. They work in the 3400c, although wouldn't give as long of a runtime as the Lithium battery would have when new.
I've got two working right now (or, last time I tested them anyway), but still with the problem where they only run for half as long as they should. I think I just need to use different cells. I have one more non-rebuilt battery which I need to crack open. When I get around to it, I'm going to...
It's clear to me at this point that the EMM is a very poorly designed BMS. Drains the cells flat on its own, constantly produces EEPROM errors such that there are two aftermarket tools to fix this, and on top of all that seemingly just likes to drop totally dead. I had one do the same thing (way...
I’ve had this same problem (to a much more minor degree) on my PowerBook 540. I found the acrylic sheet was permanently stained and could not be fixed. Maybe your case is different, but I wouldn’t count on it. Worth a shot in trying though.
I agree, looks more like the backlight diffuser got liquid contamination somehow rather than vinegar syndrome. Should be plenty of supply of dead panels to swap those parts from.
Film angle should match the angle that the scrapes/stripes are going. Hard to tell with the "blotchy" form of it here, but I think it would be 45 degree.
If the IIc Plus sold 200,000 units then where are they all? With how rare they are, it doesn't seem right to me that they sold anywhere close to half as many units as the original IIc.
It's developed vinegar syndrome. I know it doesn't have the typical "scrapes" that indicate vinegar syndrome, but it appears differently on different types of displays, and this inverted bubble is a way it commonly shows up on passive matrix displays. This can be fixed by replacing the polarizer...
Yeah, if the top two aren’t working then about half the screen will go out. I’m thinking in this case though that it’s probably more likely a loose or damaged display cable, or an intermittent trace perhaps.
That's what you get if one of the vertical ribbons is bad, but the horizontal ones can absolutely take out half the screen. You see this all the time on the PowerBook 100.
Could also be a bad trace though.
2 things to check.
First, the display cable is pretty tricky to fully reinsert into the connector and easily comes loose. Make sure you aren’t chasing the wrong problem.
Second, shine a flashlight up to the ribbons around the screen with the integrated driver ICs. Check for any dark spots...
